4 cask ales in a homly, traditional local slightly off the main road. Worth a visit.

Never visited under previous regime, but pub still features friendly welcoming staff in a proper unspoiled old fashioned pub. Probably full of locals, but lovely atmosphere greeted visitors. Landlord keen to please. Decent Shepherd Neame beer: Masterbrew, Autumn Red & Whitstable. Well worth seeking out, visit this pub & keep gems like this is business.

Regulars will be sad to hear that the landlord Dixie has retired and the pub has been taken over by new management. Eeek. Reopening in about a month... I hope they don't refurb it to death.

Just popped here for two lunchtime pints of Masterbrew. A real find. Pub looks great on the inside and out. A traditional pub, perfectly proportioned, with good beer, newspapers and a dartboard. Friendly owners and no nonsense. A little gem.

During a pub crawl of Old Street/Hoxton we walked into this pub.

Fantastic. A real contrast to the George & Vulture round the corner.

A proper pub. Good atmosphere. Great SN beer and good service.

No Hugo & Milos. I reckon quite a few Daves.

Pubs like this need to be saved forevr and not changed into a gastro pub.

Visit.

A return visit after after a couple of years, nothing had changed which is a good thing. Nothing special but a good honest boozer. Shepherd Neame beers, all in good condition. As two years earlier the the landlord made a point of comming over to our table for a chat, a very likable geezer the only downside to the vist was he said that after being there 33 years he was thinking of chucking it in, that would be a great shame. Hope to visit again and hope the govnor's still there.

Away from the bustle and noise of Old Street, overlooked by flats and factories, this place seems like it's escaped from the set of Minder. Inside two blokes prop up the bar; one breaks away to serve me. There's a pile of sandwiches for sale and that's your lot food-wise. This is a proper pub - I doubt there's a more authentic local this close to the centre of London. Shepherd Neame only, unfortunately, and a bit pricey even for the area but the sort of pub that should be preserved - a definite use it or lose it.

Old school one roomed boozer that sticks out a bit from the surrounding flats/car parks/offices. A quiet oasis minutes from the bustle around Old Street. However it's a Shepherd Neame house only selling their wares and although the Whitstable IPA was as good as you'll get it I didn't fancy another pint of it.

An excellent pub, tucked away between Pitfield St. and Old St/City Rd. with a nice selection of Shepherd Neame beers on tap. Dixie, the guv'nor, is a real gem and a very gracious host. I hope this place stays around for many more years and doesn't go the way of so many other local boozers in the area.

I always drop in here for a couple of pints when in the area, having first wandered past when a nearby job interview was cancelled at the last minute. I saw the SN sign and couldn't resist. The ales are very well kept, the service is fast and efficient, and the general atmosphere is very friendly.

Rather pleasant back street pub, hadn't been here for over 10 years since retiring from work. As Picasso09 said, wouldn't mind this as my local. Always understood it was run by Dixie Dean the former boxer, and the photos by the dart board seem to bear this out.

Visited back in October last year when in the area and will post my experience now it has finally made it onto BITE.
Pleasant looking pub and it stands out amongst the surrounding sterile housing blocks.
Theres not a lot of floor space internally and a fair bit of it is given over to the dart board. But worth searching out for the Shep Beers and the couple I tried were in excellent nick.
Worth searching out.

Noticed this pub has had no reviews to date, i hav'nt been in recently but my memorys of this pub from a visit a year and a half ago were of a decent no frills boozer. The landlord wasnt planing to open till 12 on a saturday lunchtime but let us in and was happy to serve us when we turned up about 11.20. I had a couple of pints of whitstable bay which were fine, the landlord joined us for a chat saying he had been there 30 years or so and that times were not so easy nowadays as any of his old customers died or moved on were not being replaced because the local residents tended to be imigrants where the pub is not part of their culture. It was a good start to our day as we said our goodbyes and headed of on a pub trip around the islington area. A nice pub , nothing extravagant but the sort of place you wouldnt mind as a local if you lived around the corner. I hope its surviving and still the same, i'll have a look next time i'm near.
