I think something good is happening here at astons now. went recently and they are doing table service, excellent burgers during the world cup with a good screen - but also plenty of space if you do not want your pub to be dominated by the foot ball. Much improved.

What's missing here is decent beer. There are no cask ales, so you're stuck with the usual bland keg beers or grotty old Guinness. Last time I was there, they had Becks on tap and, I think, Budvar in bottles, but the lack of a decent ale makes Paradise, the William and the Greyhound much more attractive options. Even if they don't have the facilities to keep cask ales properly, it would be easy enough to pop a few bottle-conditioned ales in the fridge. Until then, it'll remain a back-up option, for when there are no seats in the other pubs and my feet are sore.

I think there's a really nice chilled out atmosphere. Nothing shoved in your face! The Thai food's fantastic (cheap too!), the beer cold and bubbly and the staff friendly and happy to help. What else do you want?

over-rated, but still ok

This is a lovely, unpretentious place to eat and drink. The area bears no relation to the boozer, (even though you can't buy a flat in KG for less than 200K). I love their meat. And the outside space is to die for! Lovely in the summer!

This gaff is good. Nice decor,..chilled out,..and yeah,..nice break from the "rush hour tube-like" atmos in the paradise,....must make its profit on weekend food i guess, cos its never really busy in the evenings

Aston's got good for a while but now is just borning, always dead and has no atmosphere. Fod is amazing though - they'd be better off turning it into a restaurant

I've started eating Saturday lunch at Astons regularly. Recently, I ordered pan fried bream served alongside a risotto blackened with squid ink. It was one of the most engaging dishes I have eaten in the past five years. The food is consistently excellent here. Fish is a speciality, but they do a wonderful steak too. Great for kids during the daytime, with an outdoor area, plenty of space to move about in and generous portions of good chips. Astons got a fine review in Punch, but the writer couldn't help dropping in a snobbish remark about the neighbourhood. Let me state that the neighbourhood redefines the meaning of cool. If you don't like it, go back to the suburbs.

Food is excellent; lovely outside in the summer. Don't seem to close till midnight at weekends which is as it should be. Friendly staff and less pretentious than some of the other pubs in the area

Tried this pub out last night. Plus points: excellent Sardinian wine by the glass, and the staff serving tables were very pleasant. Other than that I have nothing good to report. The barman was curt, rude and incompetent. He served the wine with crud floating all over the top and replaced it without apology. The food was ok, nothing special. The music was horrendous - a bizarre mixture of the worst 80s pop, rap and some other cacaphonous crap. Coupled with harsh acoustics, the overall ambience was horrible. No wonder neighbouring pubs are heaving on a Friday night while this poorly furnished, sloppily decorated place remains three quarters empty.

Astons has become my new local, very friendly vibe, excellent food and plenty of seating (I hate standing!), which includes the standard leather sofas & open fire. The weekends I've gone down and DJ's were playing have been very impressive. There is a Sunday session where they play some outstanding classic soul and Rare grooves that I haven't heard in a long time - highly recommended. Out the back there is a summer Terrace where according to the very funky Californian barmaid :o)they have some amazing parties.

Perviously known as The Grey Horse.Completely re-vamped.Drinks can be pricey depending what you have.SErve food altho never tried it myself.Beer Garden.Seating o/s the front but limited. Now have Dj at weekends believe they actually close later too. Much better atmosphere than William IV or Paradise by way of Kensal Green. Some attractive people attend to.....
