Yet another pub I'm tardy on making a post.
Stayed here for a couple of days in June. Had a room in the main pub building - all low ceilings and creaking timbers - brilliant! Bedroom was quite basic (which is what I'd requested) but clean and comfy and quiet and I slept well.
The building is v old (I like staying in old pubs as my recent-ish posts indicate) and is probably the only pub I've ever been in where the restaurant has both stone mullioned windows AND a timber minstrel's gallery. Fab.
Unfortunately I didn't get to eat in the restaurant despite booking for dinner before I arrived. Instead was pointed to tables in the bar area. Food was very good, as was the accompanying bottles of wine and also quite good value.
Ale was reasonable - had Wainwrights and something called Feckless. Both perfectly acceptable pints. Service from the young female bar staff was perfunctory. For a tourist pub with rooms it had a bit of a locals feel.
I've given this a "7", but it could easily have been a 6 if I'd felt more mean or an 8 if it had been more welcoming, which it wasn't really. Whichever, definitely worth a visit if in the area.

Brilliant pub, went to the beer festival yesterday and it didn't disappoint. Great range of real ales and excellent food. If you are at a loose end today get yourself there.

A very good pub with 6 or 7 well kept cask ales. Extensive food menu, although we didn't eat there.
Purely from a personal perspective, I'm not that keen on traditional country pubs that have been modernised inside, but nevertheless it was pleasant and welcoming and the prices weren't excessive either. Well worth a visit and the 10-15 mins walk from Chinley Station.

Very fond memories of perfect pints taken here, with lovely people from nearby.
A more convivial, charming pub would be hard to imagine.

went in last Saturday. Still quality establishment. about 8 handpumps, 4 on each bar, I think 6 were ales and 2 were cider/perry etc. we only stopped for a quick pint but could not fault the cellarman. all of 4 ales we sampled were on top form. My personal favourite was one of the Thornbridge ales. Keep it coming!!

Excellent pub.
Fine range of beers, on my visit there was Marble Manchester, Phoenix, Titanic (2 types including a rare mild) amongst many others. Unfortunately they didn't have Thornbridge beers on my visit, but otherwise spoilt for choice.
Food was fantastic, we had the sunday lunch. The interior is beautifully done and cosy. Staff lovely. Could not fault in any way - that's why they won best pub in Derbyshire.

Dan the landlord is a rare breed, he cares about what a pub should be like. The range of beers is excellent (Thornbridge on a regular basis (imho the best brewery in the land)) and the food is good as well as reasonably priced. Lovely old pub, welcoming and a place that is worth the 2 mile to from my house.
