Since my visit, I have read on BITE that this is really two bars under the same name, one of which serves drinks only, and one which serves food as well. I wish I’d known that at the time !
I attracted into the (what turned out to be) the drinks only bar by a varied range of handpumps. Unfortunately, it was completely empty ! I was told by a member of staff (clearing tables) that I needed to go into the other bar to get served. He assured me that the range of beers would be the same – only they weren’t ! All that was in there were 3 beers from Brakspear and one other (I can’t remember what). I decided instead to have a half of the Brakspear Dark (craft keg) – though I vauilked at the £4.40 a pint price. I baulked even further when the barman told me it was £2.40 for a half ! I told him I could divide £4.40 by 2 and I got a different answer to him, but he wouldn’t budge. I slammed my money down, downed the half in one and walked out !
Obviously, I can’t comment on the food situation, but I’m sure that’s a rip-off too.

very nice pub, good ales on offer and plenty of drinks offers on.

Lively up-market bar rather than a drinker's pub. Mostly mature mixed couples and various small groups. A welcome absence of 'lads' who appear to frequent the bar over the road (the one with the door staff). Polite, safe, lively atmosphere and reasonable ale at the usual well heeled price of 3.50 a pint. Probably not worth a visit just for the beer, rather for the ambience if that's your thing.

Fantastic...great attentive staff, lovely food and a great location.

Nice pub with two bars, one just for drinking the the other for eating and drinking. Good ales in Wynchwood and Brakspears. The quality of the ale is good, I had one pint that was end of barrel and it was exchanged without question. (take note Two Brewers!) I have also eaten a couple of their steaks and they were very good. Management appear to be excellent.

The boards are off and the pub is being refurb'ed. Says it will reopen in July, and the new owners look like a chain of Steak restaurants/pubs. Wait and see...
|
The Chequers has now been boarded up for several months and there's no sign of it reopening soon.
|
Crap staff, average beer OK for watching the rugby

Avoid. Expensive, arrogant staff and shite.
|
Very expensive pub and I dodn't find the bar staff that pleasant. I certainly wouldn't recommend this pub to anyone.

It appears to be under management now and has improved alot since my below comment.

Think its nice (Marlow is pretty gourmet in general, so has to be a serious cock-up to be a dump). Bar staff a cheerful during Saturday night carnage, so they can give themselves a pat on the back. First time I went, I had some tasty ales; second time went, last Saturday, I had some tasty tap water (l'eau de robinet I recall saying, oh dear Charlie)as I was totally hammered. P.S if they new bargirl from the hogshead reads this (doubt), apologies for preventing you do your job of serving on only your third shift xx

A bit pricey, but worth it occassionally, especially if you want to have a dance on a Saturday Night. Better than Claytons up the road!

Not a big fan, always far too busy at weekends and no atmosphere in the week. Expensive drinks. Good to watch the football out the back.

Used to be nice now just another 'modern pub'

Great place to waste a weekend afternoon - sat outside people-watching. Only trouble is they charge London prices! And Pimms is for girls, anyway.
|
They say that they do the best Pimms No. 1 in Marlow and it's true!

Really nice pub in central town - can sit outside and watch the workd go by. Quite young but not too young - roughly 20-35. Late license at weekend with good old cheesy pop DJ.
