Visited this pub on Saturday with my missus and son. Had a pint of London Pride, it was slightly lifeless but tasted okay. Being a Fullers house it carried the full range of their beers. The food was okay. Slightly over salted for my taste. No way is this a pub/restraunt more of a pub serving 'pub grub'. Nice building though, with polite staff.

This post actually relates to our visit in December 2012. Excellent range of beer on offer including HSB &ESB plus two others. All in top condition. No complaints about the food this year, quite outstanding in fact. As normal the pub was packed. Very festively decorated, roaring open fires. The Olde Whyte Harte now rates an 8.5 with us.

In answer to Uriahheap, I felt the pub had many good points which to my mind added up to 7.5, and anyway my wife survived.
Leaving that aside we returned last Monday during our yearly meander along the Hamble river. As usual a good welcome. Plus a roaring log fire in both bars. The present landlord has been in the pub for about 9/10 years now & does make a real effort to please his clients. The beer was excellent, ESB, HSB & a couple of other real ales so no problem there. Food! Two of our party had the soup, no complaints there. I had the fish pie, OK but it did cost 12.95 & Roger had his usual cod & chips. Again rather expensive & a fairly meagre portion for the price. We will return but the price of the food warrants a better cook, no way could I call him a chef. Down to a 7 I am afraid.

Five of us came here for a late lunch - about 1.30 pm : the food was terrific, perhaps slightly expensive but maybe that's because Hamble is so touristy. My nephew and I had a very enjoyable pint of London Pride. Would definitely come again. I noticed from the menu that there is a wide chice of breakfast and they offer cream teas!

Hamble is a nice, popular location - meaning, increasingly "touristy" with the pubs charging "appropriately". This would be a good pub but the prices are a little over the top. The food was good but I had to be very selective to get food within my budget. The beer is expensive and could do with a better choice for my tastes. I'm surprised someone would give 7.5 when admitting they got food poisoning - fortunately I survived my burger.

Our little walking group have used this pub several times in the past. On Saturday we choose to eat here. The welcome was very friendly & the beer is always good. The ESB was superb. The two young lady waitresses were very good, attentive without fawning. OK the food is a bit pricey. Four of our party had soup which they all declared a winner & quite good value. My wife had the chicken burger which she suspected was not as fresh as it should have been. And sure enough the next day she had tummy problems. Putting that aside it is a lovely old pub & still somewhere that you can call in for a pint if that's all you want. I rate it a lot higher than the current 4.4, some one must have been really grumpy in the past. My rating a realistic 7.5

Yeah! I aggree with other reviews of this one that it's a landlord and 'locals' pub but you always get a warm welcome. The foods great. A fullers pub so Pride, HSB, ESB and Discovery on tap. Don't know if got London connections but it's got that sort of feeling which is strange for a pub on the South coast in a sailing village. I hear there's a lock-in at the week-ends. Anyhow a good place to visit with historic surroundings.

Went for a drink Sunday evening about 8pm - drinking outside was impossible - boatloads of shouty sailors and local boozers competing to see who could make the most noise. After one rather expensive pint left and went to the King & Queen instead. Food has a good reputation locally, but it's expensive so we ate elsewhere.

Went here on a Sunday, and sat out front by the road. Must have been about 4 p.m. and the place was virtually empty, but I know it does get busy at times. Had a pint of Butcombe which was fine, and being a Fullers pub had all the usuals like London Pride, HSB, ESB and Discovery on tap. Looking at the menu, it looked varied with a lot of seafood dishes but well out of my price range, such is the norm, it seems, in Hamble. Pleasant looking place though, with a nice aged look which sits well with the surrounding area. Would visit again.

Took my family here last week for the 4th or 5th time. Always very friendly, welcoming staff even under immense pressure (it's a very busy pub!). Have noticed the food has improved greatly since they have a new chef. The specials menu is superb and full of interesting choices. Well worth a visit if you want a fun relaxing time!

Don't expect a late drink as there's often a lock-in at the weekend - watch out for menus taped over the windows on the main door. Locals only.

Very friendly staff, quaint historic building and a selection of decent ale. Excellent food though not particularly cheap. Especially love their English breakfasts. Does get busy sometimes and the bar area is fairly small. Great for a pub crawl as there are so many other pubs and bars just a minute's walk down the hill and there's an Indian restaurant almost opposite.

fairly obvious, baxter, the guide dog gets a discount the white hart is tied and doesn't, but who drinks esb in the guide dog?, when he has such a range of small independant beers to choose from
|
VERY expensive: 3.60 for ESB. It's ony 2.80 in the Guide Dog which is a Free House, not a Fuller's pub. Explain that.
|
I used to come here regularly with family for a quiet meal a while ago but since the licensing laws changed the place has gone downhill and now it attracts middle-aged boozers from the rough end of town. The landlord's a decent bloke but his customers let the place down.

Looks to be a decent Fullers pub. Popped in on a Saturday night but too busy and nowhere to sit or stand.
