Enjoyed a stunning pint of Woodforde's Wherry today in the beer garden as we walked through the village on our circular route from Ilmington. North Cotswold Fosseway Flanker was the other handpull. Only downside was the cost: £8.15 for my pint and half a Stowford Press.

When I last visited, it was a cosy country pub that did excellent food. Now it's been extended it still retains most of its ambience but it's a little more restaurant nowadays than pub. It remains seeking out though. The Yubby was slightly better than average for £3.80 a pint whereas the Stroud Tom Long was in better condition, tastier and more expensive. Even on a Tuesday evening, we couldn't get our preferred dining time - maybe everyone but us knew that the Flowers of Ilmington Women's Morris side would be there.

Greeted by a sign saying its "The Times best village Inn in the Uk". Big claim, but you can kind of see where they are coming from.

Tiny front bar. Long dining room, with a sign saying only for diners.

1pm on a Saturday lunch and no choice but to stand at bar and get in everyone's way. Strange, when there is so much room available.

Beer wise, there was a Mild from North Cotswold Brewery and two of their own brands - Yubberton Yubby and Goldie. The Yubby was good enough to prompt me to buy three bottles to take home.

Worth seeking out.

A comfy and characterful country inn that has a lot going for it. Personally, I found the Yubby ale a touch thin and disappointing for the ABV (at 3.8% one wants more flavour - not a boys bitter), but there was admittedly a wider selection that I did not sample. Some strong, imaginative cooking generally impressed our party - especially the fish. The vegetarian food is interesting and thoughtful too. The service was excellent and staff are very well informed. Not cheap but good value for the quality and service.

Wonderful country pub with a fully hands-on host. The food is superb and I would recommend booking. The house brews are brewed at the North Cotswolds Brewery and there are guest ales as well. Stone flagged floors, open fireplaces and a great atmosphere.

Went to this pub a couple of years back for dinner when staying near by and enjoyed it so much we went back for dinner the next night, and Sunday lunch. Very good food, very good ale and Jim as host was awesome. Every time we mention a weekend away I always ask if we can go here but for various reasons we haven't been able to. I very much look forward to a return visit!

Great little pub, interesting old building and most importantly a good selection of great beer. We only popped in for one on a bike ride at the weekend, cant remember what I had (think it was called something to do with trains?) but it went down a treat! I imagine if you were planning on eating you would want to get there early.

Visited on Monday 7 March with Mrs Monk during our weeks sojourn in the Cotswolds. Lovely pub in a small village near to Blockley where we stayed. Had the fish and chips with mushy peas complemented by 4 of ales on offer, including the Wye Valley HPA and the star of the selection, the Dorothy Goodbody Stout. Friendly attentive and knowledgeable staff and landlord. A good reason to move to the area! 9/10

Having stayed in the Chipping Campden area over New Year 2010 and had a beer and meal or two, I can honestly say this is by far the best pub in the area and probably elsewhere. The quality of the food is extremely good and isn't particularly expensive. A three course dinner included pheasant breasts cooked beautifully and so full of flavour. Also had beetroot soup with horseradish cream and some fabulous white chocolate sweet.

The selection of 5 real ales were all in fine form, on several days, and the pub itself is beautiful, albeit a little small inside. Get there for 12:00 on a Sunday and spend the afternoon eating and drinking. You won't regret it one bit!

Superb. Fantastic Sunday lunchtime menu (I had trio of duck for a starter and partridge for mains) with well-kept Uley Bitter and Tom Long. Cannot fault it.

This pub is a gem. An eclectic mix of upper crust and working class locals, cracking food and 4 ales on tap of which the Uley Bitter is the pick for me. Its not very big inside but the garden is spacious, pretty and fully enclosed. Dogs can trot around in it off the lead which adds to the already impressive dog friendliness of the place.
