The Malt & Apple has now closed and it is some sort of Irish Bar
.....Once The Faulkners, now the Malt & Apple & what a horror story of a pub this has become. Some effort (albeit minimal) has been spent refurbing the interior but with green astro-turf on the floor (tricky after a few pints) & a crummp paint job, it'll struggle. That apart, not one for real alers either although I can't see it being one for anyone @ this rate. Some decent memories up in smoke for me!
I was told Altrincham is a very posh area. This is completely untrue. This pub is the sort of place people go when they have been banned from everywhere else. Most of the customers look like they have just been released from Strangeways. I had one pint and left never to return.
I was here at about 2.00pm last Saturday and no trouble then but a bit early for that anyway A nice little locals pub and the service was good from a friendly barman. 3 hand pumps but only one in use for Marstons Pedigree with was in very good condition and sold for a very reasonable 2.30 a pint.
This place seems to be back under new management, They have a poster outside offering discounted beers so it could be worth a visit now that Altrincham's rudest man is no longer at the helm!
If you like fights and drug dealers/addicts queing for the toilets then this is the place for you. It's full of scally's, I saw a some scally's assault someone he cracked his skull and there was blood everywhere. the owners and barmaid didn't phone the ambulance or police instead they were more concerned with cleaning up the blood. As the post below says avoid it like the plague.
avoid like the plague!! flat overpriced beer and drug taking in the toilets at weekends as gets full of every little scally from the surounding areas and the landlord is a miserable foreign sod as well! just a metter of time before he loses his licence or loses him money and shuts!
A lot better and cleaner pubs have closed in Altrincham over the last few months. The beer not kept particularly well nor is it particularly cheap. Not a place to drink or socialise in, but worth a visit for novelty value alone.
I think the 'half decent staff' comment below actually means half the staff are decent, the other half don't know what they're doing behind a bar. Ruddles County real ale, loud music
Scruffy pub with odd locals.
ok pub, with half decent staff, although i think the doorman on friday and saturday is a bit of a letch. He can't keep his eyes off my fiancee and its really beginning to piss me off to some tune
It's a good place to go for all the wrong reasons. Barmaid didn't understand English and the locals were as odd a bunch as you are likely to see anywhere, but they are harmless and entertaining.
terrible paint job most of its on the floor the landlords arrogant with no sense of humour.
Always has a guest ale on that you can't get elsewhere in Alty. Normally best to hit the place later on in the evening as it has extended hours and normally a DJ and then you can always move on to the Station
sunday nights are not the same in here. Les fries
quality place, the new owners can speak a word of english and you have to point at what you want and then they just make up the prices, they've got a good selection of shots for a 1 going now aswell which had that robbo bloke rolling the other week.
Last time we went in the barman kept turning the music up until half of the punters left - including us. It's supposed to be a pub, not a nightclub. It was only teatime too!
not to sure if the new owners are capable of running a pub like this. This is due to the that this is an old school local pub and visited by altrincham legends like the fabled 'dream team' crew of alty fc, that tit who thinks he is a gangter out of eastenders and of course we can't forget the legendary singers - the robbo, bez, kurt mcbain, mrs mcbain wenger?, brad and the ultimate jimmy. you still can't argue with 1.50 for bottles of stella though i haven't tried the hardcore sunday roast yet. PS. YOUR NOT OUTLAWED NOW MAXIM MY FARVOURITE NITRO, RHAPSODY RETURNS!! PEACE
Quality pub, 1.50 a bottle of stella all night, cant argue with that. Needs some more dream team action !
That was me, it was my birthday in all fairness! Great pub though, sundays in there are getting better and the kareoke crowd are a great laugh. Its good to see a good old fashioned knees up boozer especially when 99% of alty has crumbled to the von dutch cosmopolitan tribe - Good job

The daddy of pubs in alty. 1.50 for a bottle of stella. Karaoke as well. Who was that puff singing Gold last night? Bonus: 2 sunday roasts for a fiver

Hello, The last weekend of september we (15 lads from Geffen The Netherlands) came to Manchester to watch the game of Man Utd against Liverpool. We stayed at the Oasis hotel in Altrincham and went out for a pint in the town centre. We ended up at the Faulkners arms and it was a pleasant stay. We came in at 22.50h but still it was possible to order a dozen of hamburgers to fill up the hungry bellies and flush it down with lotsa pints!! We, hometown lads from Ruud van Nistelrooy, were very pleased with the hospitality which we received from the locals and pubowner. It was a pleasant stay and i hope we'll be back on short notice.
Greetings, the lads from Geffen. (The Netherlands)

Great Traditional Pub in the middle of the trendy 3 a pint bar that have sprung up every 20 yards on stamford new road. Saturday mornings are entertaining as it opens at 11 and you'll be sure to find the pub full of Altrincham FC supporters by 12 if the local side are playing at home. Fans of many other clubs heading for Old Trafford and The City Of Manchester Stadium find themselves in the Faulkners as well with it being an 11am opener. Lots of banter during they day with the footy fans and at nights with the Kareoke and Dj's. Never a hint of trouble and no Bouncers ever needed on the door, great traditional northern pub.

This pub was becoming a regular haunt of ours lately but all that is now to change my friends!!! One of my fellow rock n roll stars was actually barred from Kareoke on sunday for being rubbish. Now i know that some people (mainly them that failed the pop idol audition and couldnt pull off Craaaaaiigggg David for stars in your eyes) take it very seriously but its meant to be rubbish. Thats the point! If people were that amazing then they wouldnt be singing someone else's songs (note to girls aloud). Hopefully the management will read this and let the Ban go. Its meant to be crap, its meant to fun and its also proving pretty profitable to you as we are spending a fortune in there!!

Is this the oldest pub on the planet? It does not matter my friends because this is a cool pub. Old school beer, music, barstaff and authentic furniture. Get your funky ass down here on a thursday night for the legendary kareoke(is that spelt right). CLASSIC PUB, AND YOU KNOW THIS...MAN!!!

Its a quality pub with a mix of young and old but not alot of scallies funnily enough. the perfect place to finish off a pub day when the wine bar scene just gets too much

Went in on Sunday afternoon and the entertainment guy was late so Tony (the manager) made sandwiches for everyone! Thought that that was really nice of him and it was well worth the wait for the entertainment- he was quality. Had tamberines and shakers so that everyone could join in. Its just a shame that they are getting rid of the "didly didly" on a sunday night.

Quality Poker pub. Sunday afternoons are class in here
Chris - 1 Mar 2004 13:17 |
Always make it a habit to stop off for one on the way back to getting the tram, purely for entertainment value. Usually has a couple of excellent guest beers, although the drawback is that one or more of my mates usually end up harassed by the local female "entertainment"
The Faulkners is a haven for Altrincham's ne'er-do-wells, social misfits, red-nosed old soaks and general freaks. So therefore it's a great laugh on a Friday night, the beer's not bad (Ruddles) and there's always some entertainment!

An oasis in the middle of new trendy bars, this is an old fashioned drinking hole. A refreshing change in Altrincham.
