Re visit at christmas - food good and plenty of it - ale good if a touch dearer than some, stove back in which adds to the character, landlord good mine host.

Saturday night - dead but for a few diners, cant see how the pub is going carry on if this is typical. Moved on the Brickmakers in nearby Swanmore which was busy and ale was cheaper.

A good friend of mine has taken this Admirals Inns pub over and has been there since mid May. Although still finding his feet in Shirrell Heath, he has 4 pumps on and is hoping for more local trade and support in the very near future. I'm looking forward to visiting with OSCC on 21st August and will post again afterwards. NB this Prince of Wales is in SHIRRELL HEATH High St!!

new owners now in - trying their best, but felt a bit souless. Pubco has much to answer for I would guess. Maybe if people return it will gain atmosphere.

Returned to see if things had improved and to be fair the food was reasonable for the money and the beer was beyond reproach - the only down side was listening to the sad tale of woe form the landlady - I understand they (in common with most tenants) are being traeted badly by the pubcos, but i was so weary of her down beat conversation i moved on without having that extra pint! In fact she expressed dismay that I wasnt staying for another. I wonder if this pub will be another casualty before long on the list of closures.

Visited recently and ale was beyond reproach, a little clicky, but if you make an attempt to be sociable the barriers come down. Can't testify to food, place a bit to dirty to trust to kitchen hygeine! As a drinkers pub would recommend.

How very dissappointing when looking at how much effort and money has gone into redecorating and refurbishing this pub to be let down so badly with food that is boardering on inedible.
My wife and I visited the pub for lunch, I might add I think we were the only people in the pub apart from the staff and ordered 2 main course dishes ( 1 each) which were both pie dishes. The chicken and ham pie I had seemed to be made of a sauce that was something close to PVA woodglue as it was very dry. Both of the pies presented had large crusts of pasty whcih were obviously cooked seperatly which when cut exploded into crumbs and was very difficult to eat. One of the worse parts of this meal was the inedible vegetables which were served seperately. The carrot mash tasted of nothing and I had to ask my wife what it was, further to that how a "chef" could ruin cauliflower to the point that it was inedible is beyond belief. How is it possible to mess up vegatables if you call yourself a chef?
Whilst we were eating I am sure the 2 staff members who seemed to be doing very little must have overheard us complaining quietly to each other about this meal and did not even both to ask if the meal was OK. If I owned this pub I would want to knoe about this.
When I went to the bar to pay for the meal which should have been about 14 (7 per main course) I was intialy asked to pay more than 18 presumably for someones elses meal. At that point I questioned the bill and with a slight apology the error was sorted and I paid for our meal reluctantly.
While the beer served in the pub is good, no complaints there, I would suggest whatever you do DON'T ORDER ANY FOOD to avoid dissapointment. For about 8 we could have gone to the local fish and chip shop and got much better value and food that was edible. The staff were completely disinterested, bordering on rude.
