user reviews of Swan Hotel, Stafford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Swan Hotel is an old coaching inn on a central shopping street. It was busy with a wedding reception on our visit. But there are lots of different rooms that meant that other drinkers and diners were unaffected. Thwaites Wainwright was supplemented by Wychwood Hobgoblin, Wells Bombardier Glorious English & Wye Valle HPA.

It is totally unacceptable, in this day and age, for a hotel of this size and centrality to not sell real ale.

My wife and I visited Stafford for the weekend but did not stay here because the Hotel did not respond to email or phone calls about booking a room so we stayed at the Vine (excellent) instead. We did not go in the Swan needless to say. Poor performance.

Really impressed - the quality of the fit-out is excellent - good modern feel with leather sofas, but retaining all the old features. Very attentive staff. Quiet when we were in, but will definitely visit agian. Recommended.

Former coaching inn which until a coupel of years ago was in a poor state. The new owner, Chris Lewis, has transformed it into a first-rate modern (yet sypathetic) business with two large bars, a restaurant and a large out-door function/barbecue area. They only have one ale on draught, Speckled Hen, and it's too chilled for my liking. They also have bottled beers - Slater's Top Totty and Freedom organic lagers. The staff are outstandingly friendly and we've had soem really good nights here.

Probably not somewhere to include on a crawl, but thoroughly recommended for a meal, a party or just somewhere to relax. I'll always try to stay here in future when I'm in Stafford.
