Myself and my husband to be had been to this pub on three previous occasions and on the second visit, we witnessed (who we assumed to be the manager) eject a female out of the pub. We heard from other customers that she was excluded from the pub for some time as she usually caused trouble. Understandably, clientele such as this should be barred.
On our final visit, my husband had a go on the gaming machine, as he will if money is spare though he rarely wins much. This time he did win - 18! Congratulations from the staff and customers? Not a chance! He was surrounded by the manager and what seemed to be a dozen regulars (many of whom were drunk), and made to feel guilty that he'd won. Short of physical violence, we felt extremely intimidated to the extent of leaving.
It was a shame as the pub did look very friendly from outside, though we won't go back!

It was playing Xfm and the Guinness was decent. For South Norwood that's pretty impressive. A decent local I reckon.

It was quiet in here on my recent week night visit, but I liked the set up of the pub and it was good to see a dartboard. There are a couple of plasma screens, one of which had a George cross on one side of it and a Kiwi flag on the other so maybe this is the rugby pub of the area.
There are four hand pumps, but only Abbot and Pride were available as the other two were unused. San Miguel was also available along with a standard draught selection and I found my pint of Guinness to be very good.
The barmaid was polite, but miserable with it maybe it was the boredom of standing behind a bar with only two other people in the pub.
This place is pretty forgettable, but I would use it if I lived in the area.

Came in on a saturday afternoon. Very chilled out. Good, friendly service. Decent range of beer.

I was in here only a few weeks ago. It was quiet for a Saturday afternoon but not unpleasant.

Gunner1, i hope your wrong, when i lived in Norwood this was always a convivial pubby pub, as in not a central Croydon big beer barn.mind you the stench of nicotine was unbelievable, as a non smoker I must have inhaled eighty fags a day!

I have been in twicw since the Refub and was the only one in ther on both occasions! looks like another casualty will be a block of flats in 2009

nice enough inside with freindly staff. Abbot is the only ale. the regulars are a bit eccentric and the jukebox can get a bit loud, but the tunes are mostly good (classic rock) it's very well decorated with old pictures of the pub and surrounding area.

Very smoky, friendly enough and a decent range of beers.
Slightly down-at-heel location though but worth dropping into. One of the better pubs in South Norwood.

Eeek! This is a pub reverting to type! It was good last year, but recently has been sliding back out of control. Crap beer and lousy atmosphere. What a shame.

A nice pub but it does get its fair share of weirdos. Thankfully most weirdos go to the Wetherspoons across the road but some still find their way in to the Alliance and make it unpleasant for the rest of us.
The new landlord is very good though and the place has come on in leaps and bounds since he took over.

I like this pub ,dont use it now because I and others have had so much trouble with people asking for money ,also the drug scene around the station is terrible.

Solid, well-run pub. Aidan is very customer-focused and makes sure the beers are kept up to scratch. Good value all round.

In researching my family history I've just found my great grandmother, Agnes Townsend, aged 15, a servant at your pub in 1871. The landlord then was a William Hillier. Excited to see you're still there.

Aidan the new manager is a sound bloke. Got to know him when I did some work for wetherspoons across the road.

The Alliance give's a new meaning to the word 'pub'. Its sexy, stylish, and has great new modern interior. Plenty of friuty's(but it a bit differcult to get on um' cos my mate Tony thin likes a bit of a dabble) basically The Alliance is a traditional shithole!
