Remarkable maze of a pub with several buildings and rambling areas to wonder through. The room we sat in was down to earth and unaltered, as were the gents. Just a little too busy and service suffered as a result but it’s very much an iconic old institution.

Music orientated bar - as traditional as you can get - from the furniture (all wood) to the gents (proudly standing right next to the bar).
Great place, if you can get a seat!

Expanded garden bar has helped the nightly crowds.

This was my favourite pub when I lived in Dublin! Great atmosphere, great live music, great staff, it is good for the rugby and you can even get a toasted sandwich! Also relatively child free...which for a drinking establishment is getting harder and harder to find!
|
Small, old, but publicans prompt and, Guinness fantastic! Courtyard has become a smoke house, so only hope is it's nice so you can go out back.
|
It's a bit of a legend and is meant to be tatty! Indeed it was the pub that saw the formation of The Dubs back in the sixties and I dare say it hasn't seen a lick of pain since! Along with Doheny & Nesbitt's, you don't get a more real Dublin boozer than this.
|
Proper Irish pub, but unfortunately there was no music on when I was there. This was the place which gave rise to the Dubliners and there was also a movie filmed here in the 60s. It actually looks a bit tatty in places. A lick of paint and a good spring clean wouldn't go amiss.

Has the feel of a tourist trap from previous visits, but my last stagger into the venue on a weekday night, brought a decent Irish session from the corner(as usual)but also a genuine Irish pub feel at the bar...(though my night had already been enhanced by excellent stopoffs in Kehoes,Doheny & Nesbitts and Toners)

Sure O'Donoghues was better in days gone by but it's still my favourite in Dublin. I've loved it since my first visit, when we actually couldn't get in for the crowd and the pints were passed back over the heads. One of the best pints in the city and the music can be great. Full of tourists? OK, Dublin is full of tourists, but I don't think I've ever gone to O'Donoghues and not fallen into conversation with an Irish person.

Used to be a lot better. It's become like one of those theme bars - something's been lost in the way of atmosphere. A shame, as this was a real special place.

Decenet enough real Irish bar thats of course full of tourists. Usually a good ballad/trad session going on in the corner. The barman are great craic even if it is a bit pokey
|
Expensive but good pub with goiod Guinness of course. Particularly lively on an International Rugby Saturday!

Crap. This is surely one of the worst places in Dublin to have a decent pint or to listen to some real traditional music. It's pure paddywhackery. Last time I was there it was full of German musicologists and bodhran-toting tossers.

Heaven! Best pub in the world? What a place, where they pass the pints of Guinness over heads from the bar. Every time I go to Dublin, I head for this place, no place that I have found has a better atmosphere, and by extending at the back into the "courtyard" if it is getting too packed, you can watch the outside entertainment. Dublin is expensive,& O'Donoghues is no exception, but for the craic its worth it! I am sure there are many O'Donoghues & like in Ireland, but definitely the best pub in Dublin City Centre.

My favourite pub in Dublin! Great for Guinness & music, and always houses a few good drunken raconteurs.

Superb pub, marvellous Guinness and the bar where the Dubliners were discovered, there is still a place left aside for the musicians at the front.Atmosphere is special, unfortunately suffers from typical Dublin rip off prices but well worth a visit
