I remember this place well. I had a particularly unpleasant flatmate for a while. We lived nearby. When we first lived together, and before we discovered we hated each other, we went here with a friend of mine for a drink. It was on that afternoon I began to realise I hated her.
This was a loungy, very try hard venue. Not the worst of its kind but certainly not somewhere I would ever have chosen to go. Although in many ways it is good to hear of its closure, it being a bar of the type I personally don't like, it is one less drinking option in an area already hopeless for bars and pubs.

Currently closed, being refurbished and opening as something called Eclipse in March. Not holding my breath.

I've recently been in here a couple of times on Sunday afternoons. It's quiet and fairly empty plus the 2 for 1 offer on bottles of lager was enticing. Went in there last week and a change in vibe. Loud music and a bit busier than normal. The barman says the offers no longer available as they have new owners - apparently the same people who own the Buzz Bar. My friend informs me it's a pick up joint in town. He proceeds to serve me a luke warm Corona, slices a lime, throws it in the air, puts the bottle behind his back and inserts said slice in bottle. I just look blankly at him, take the change off the silver platter and amble off. Must be getting old.

Agree fully with previous comments. This bar is full of trendy wannabees and rude staff. The only good thing are the 2 for 1 bottled beers and cocktails 4-7pm 7 days a week.

Not a bad bar, but would be a lot better if it had more people in!

I live in the area and I can honestly say this is a nice bar. Its the staff and people who drink in there who spoil it. Prentenious is hitting the nail on the head!!! Ghastly. My advice is try the Railway down the road. The Bronze Age in Kilburn nearby is much better. They also have zero tolerance to substance abuse in the toilet cubicles, a better class of punter. You can enjoy a pint without being made to feel like a lower class of person.

Been in WH for 4 years myself, and I've been in there a couple of times. Full of boy band wannabees and hardcore trendies, way too much hard work. Unwelcoming and rude bar staff (you're a waitress not a bloody celebrity) and overpriced drinks. Mutton dressed up as Lamb. The only good thing about this place is that it's a magnet for the sort of person I try to avoid, so the rest of the pubs are mercifully free of them!

Really really bad this place,...i even cross the road when i walk past. Preferred it when it was Scruffy Murphy's and they used to tolerate people pissing at the bar in there!

Whats happened to this place? It used to be pretty cool. Went there for the first time in about 3 years on a saturday night 2 weeks ago and there was hardly anyone there and the obnoxious chick behind the bar told me to bring cash next time even though there's absolutely no need to as there's a switch card machine there ....This place used to heave and the staff used to be nice too ......

Pretentious, crap, uncomfortable, expensive and poorly laid out. the only saving grace is the excellence of the staff but apperently only if you catch then on a good day!

My friend and I went there last Saturday for the very first time. After we got outside, my friend who is epileptic, suffered a fit. No taxi would take us as they thought she was drunk. The cane bar staff came to our resuce, getting us a lift and making sure that we both got home safe. They were marvellous and went well beyond the call of duty. Well done to all the staff there and many thanks from me and especially my friend Joyce. I will definately be making it my local from now on. Well Done Cane and long may it continue. That's what I call customer service!

Pretentious crap pub with stupid uncomfortable stools (they are square boxes with almost no padding). Seems to be empty these days which is no surprise as this is one to miss

Only redeeming feature is San Miguel on tap. Otherwise, not a good atmosphere. Would rather take my chances in the Liion up the road!

This place sucks and is full of pretentious idiots.
To date (and I have lived in WH for over 4 years) I have witnessed a full-on riot (tables were being thrown over our heads in a fight one Sunday night a couple of years ago), a theft (my friend's mobile was openly taken by a gang of drunken guys) and aggressive behaviour from the bar staff.
Give this place a miss, you're better off down the road in Camden or Islington.

Was there last friday(31/7/2004) THAT d.j is jumpin! Funk scratched with disco combined with their 241 cocktail offer (til 7) makes this as irresistable as da peops in there!

Had to go there recently because a friend was meeting friends. It really is a lamentable place and I suspect it's on borrowed time. The music system's tinny and was playing the biggest pile of crap out. The DJ was jigging around the pub and just looked a dick.

I think it is pants. The sound system is awful, the toilets are really dirty and flooded, and the clientele are working class people who think that going to a bar like this makes them posh.

DON'T go to this bar. It is overpriced, full of try hard trendies and got no atmosphere. Bring back the Irish bar with the drunks at the bar, anything is better than cane...

Cane makes an effort, but ends up wide of the mark, and ends up with: iffy music distorted by a terrible sound system, pricey drinks and an understaffed bar. Makes the Rat & Parrot just up the road an unusually attractive option!

Sounds like there's more pretention coming from the critics than from the bar. The music is always a good funky mix, and cane serves as a handy local bar, that's it. I think those who seem to hate it so passionately should stick to W1...or more than likely Clapham.

Admittedly,I have been DJing at Cane for the last couple of months on Sundays, but just wanted to address some of the complaints posted earlier in the year. The managers are aware that there have been problems in the past and are trying to address this. I.e only pretentious people go there. Not true, its a laid back fun kind of place where every day for 3 hours you can get 241 on all bottles and cocktails -which is surely good value? Also by bringing in many different types of DJ's they are creating a funky, eclectic atmosphere. If you haven't been for a while, you should check it out.

How sad. It was great in its first year, especially thursday nights . .but now on its 4th or 5th manager who is not local and without a clue, its lame and on borrowed time. Too bad.
Lukka - 8 Dec 2003 04:20 |
I reckon this place is on borrowed time. Nowhere near as busy as it used to be. Wonder what it will be next. Advice: turn it into a normal pub, with a good juke box.

The place to be seen! As long as you are a stuck-up, personality-free fashion victim that is!
|
This is a lamentably outfitted, unfriendly, overpriced excuse for a bar, playing appalling music loudly. Avoid.

Used to be Scruffy Murphys. Please bring it back. It wasn't great but this place is simply awful. Crap music and lets all stand on the pavement and inhale fumes.
