The Tollgate has been refurbished and renamed the Clipper for sometime. TV screens have been disposed of, so the yob element has vanished - at least during the day. Food IMHO is better than wetherspoons. Real ale choice is limited to bombardier + changing guest (not normally anything interesting) but until recently this was 1.49 pint (probably more now) - and quality was fine. OK its a Smith & Jones chain pub but worth having a pint or two on an afternoon. Rating : the Bombardier (on several visits) : not a beer a like but, 8/10. Food 7 /10. Good value.

As someone else has mentioned, The Tollgate is a pretty soulless place. It reminds me of The Furze Wren in Bexleyheath, just without the hundreds of customers. Whilst I dont think it's awful, it doesn't do anything particularly well - it's just very middle of the road. The bar staff always seem bored, the punters always seem bored the drink selection is boring and the food is always "just ok".
I don't want to give it a bad review, but I cant really find anything to say that's particularly good either.
Distinctly average. Sorry.

This is a ghastly pub. The second time I was in I got threatened by some local troublemakers. Go over the road to wetherspoons - a definitive nostars

Very large pub which does nothing for the atmosphere, which is generally empty and depressing at any other time when there isn't football on, when it's just noisy and unwelcoming.
The staff work hard but are generally unwelcoming and look to be counting the minutes until they can leave. The food is quite Wetherspoons-esque poor and has clearly seen a microwave at some point.
The beer is cheap but generally of poor quality and it is very dark inside which adds nothing.
Overall, an awful pub. Even if you needed a cheap drink, Wetherspoons is opposite (which is only slightly better).

To big inside and not very comfortable. Trendys bar

Quite lively, big screens for football but its not a pub i would often visit for more than one pint! The rumour of sick and other such stuff being thrown over the bar is true... Not a watering hole id reccommend to anyone!

i heard that not just once but twice now a bucket containg vomit and sh#t has been trown over the bar

Once. And only once have i visited this nasty little boozer.
Just awful. A real candidate for the worst pub ever. I lasted just long enough in here to drink about half a pint. Not good.

I used to frequent this place a lot after I initially moved to Dartford. The drink selection and prices arent noticeably bad and the staff are freindly-ish most of the time. The place seems a little untidy though and this place isn't really my thing on Friday and Saturday nights. It gets a little too rowdy and overcrowded for my liking. The musics not to bad though and there are worse places you could go.

18 months on from my initial review, I have been back to the Tollgate on a few occasions and have to say the pub has not lived up to it's initial promising expectations. Being of the more mature fraternity, there have been times when the staff have ignored me and my friends for their younger and more trendy clients. I have seen people sick in the pub and yet they still continue to be served. The beer is often of poor quality and the pub has generally been taken over by people who I quite frankly choose not to drink amongst (and they probably feel the same about me). It will take a lot to get me back in there.

nice seating areas, well laid out and cheap drinks but not overly clean - i was given a dirty glass - and chips tasted strangely garlicky...?!

Well good for a chilled out pint

Part of the Barracuda chain, a new addition to Dartfords town centre, as if there were not enough pubs already. With 2 pubs within 20 yards, the Tollgate has a lot of competition. The Tollgate appears to offer the best mix of all the pubs in the area. Discounted drinks to rival Wetherspoons prices but not agreat selection and the beers do not always appear to be well kept. Reasonal, if unadventurous pub-grub. Good for watching sport with several screens. The inteirior offers an eclected mix of tables and seating that should suit everyones taste and there is a samll patio area to the rear. Mixed customer base. Certainly one of the best pubs of it's kind.
