Rising Sun, Matlockback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
From outside this looks like Ye Olde pub, but inside it is trying to be trendy. The food was quite good but expensive, beer quite good. All in all quite good, 7/10

I thought this was a a decent place to stop when walking through Derbyshire. I was impressed with the Blue Monkey BG Sips I had, but the lunchtime food was a little disappointing.
This was my second visit, as I had been a few months previously on a Friday evening. I would say on balance that it is worthy of a strong 6.5. Needs to deliver a bit better value on the food front, but the beer situation is fine.

Some reviewers seem unable to count !!!
There were SIX real ales available when I visited last week … Pedigree, Landlord, Doombar, plus two brews from Blue Monkey and one from Shiny. I had two superb pints of Blue Monkey BG Sips which were first class and were served by friendly barstaff.
But I was NOT impressed with the food. There are plenty of choices on the menu and the food is freshly cooked, but I have had much better quality and value bar meals elsewhere.
If my experience is typical, the Rising Sun has a fundamental heating problem. There are nice real log fires at both ends of the bar, but it seems that to try to reduce the smell of wood smoke, the outside door is regularly propped open resulting in the bar becoming VERY cold and draughty. This is a far from an ideal environment to either eat or to drink in.
Superb beer, but the management need to get their act together on both comfort and food.

For an up to date review I can only confirm what other reviewers have stated accurately. It's still as good as previously described despite a change of ownership. Nothing has changed except the four cask ales on offer - a very good pub , one of the best I've been in on my hiking travels.

Visited this excellent country pub with a large party for a Saturday Lunch. The food was obviously home prepared and of reasonable value - and all of it arrived at the table at the same time. Whilst the Ale was of good quality with a choice of 4 beers on - 6X , Pedigree , Bass and the local Wirksworth Ale. Beer prices were also reasonable . Nice beer Garden at rear , open fires inside and flagstone floor , clean toilets and tables out the front. Definately going again and well recommended.

Excellent pit-stop after hauling yourself up the Middleton incline on the High Peak Trail. Good selection of at least four real ales, two from local microbreweries at Wincle and Peakstones Rock on this visit. Large, attractive whitewashed building with car park and some tables across the road. Sunday lunches looked good and reasonably priced.

A short walk from the High Peak Trail. They had a mini beer festival at Easter that was all Thornbridge ales. The lowest one was 4.9% rising to 7.7%. I would suspect that the normal beer range is rather more ordinary. Child friendly, dog friendly and everything else friendly. We enjoyed this pub so much that two afternoons of our holiday disappeared in a haze. The food is pretty good as well.
