New managers have taken over and they seem to be making a go of it!
Most of the drunks have been barred and the place smells fresh and clean, the prices aren't too bad either £2.50 a pint for all the real ales which are well kept.
Service was good and atmosphere is very relaxed, we spent the evening last Saturday to get away from all the rowdy youngsters.
I have heard that food will begin mid December and will be all home made.
I think a quiz night and maybe live music would go down great here.
Would recommend and will def be returning once food starts.

landlady had hangover! only 1 cubicle in gents with no seat and no paper.

Revisted. What have they done to it?! Greatly reduced selection of badly kept beers, unhelpful staff, bland town centre pub with no character. Advice find somewhere else. (King Billy, Malt Shovel - worth the walk)

Used to go here regularly. It had a good selection of ales and good service. Since it got taken over a few years ago it has been changed to another modern pub with bland decor and no character. The beer selection has dwindled too.

Good pub! Food a bit crud though - you know the sort - tasteless fish - probably cheap coley rather than cod.

a breath of fresh air in the town centre. great beer and it looks like the place is being redecorated too........at last! really friendly,efficient staff too. i love this pub, a proper pub with great standards. make time to visit.

I was also there that last time, and I can't comment on the state of the other bars seeing as I was keeping our Goalkeeper company at Northampton's A&E.
But when I did get to hit the town and found that lot in the Fish, I thought, "Great, they chose an Old Man's pub." Because it is.
Also comes with Province-standard skindheaded chainsmoking lad with tattoos and a grudge, and a gaggle (or a brace? Or perhaps a 'lard') of slightly-too-overweight local girls in leotards.

Seeing as how most of central Northampton seems to be filled with noisy, Chav-stained hell pits where you'd be more likely to get bottled than sozzled, The Fish is a welcome exception. Decent selection of ales, a quiz machine of the type that I seem to be coming increasingly addicted to, decent enough toilets (complete with locking full length cubicle door) and the last time I was in here, to the delight of the Brucie Boys Football team, Bruce Forsythe was on the goggle box in the corner! Hurrah!

A TJ Bernard house, around half a dozen ales on handpump, mostly mainstream brews except the local Frog Island bitter which had a peculiar fruity flavour without being too sweet - I rather enjoyed it. Decent enough pub with plenty of space, efficient service, convenient localtion just off the main street running through the centre of town.

Great selection of beers. Some fine characters amongst the locals. Corner pub so windows to two sides and great for ogling in the summer months.
Can get busy at weekday lunch times so if you're ordering food get your order in quickly.

Great selection of real ales and wine. Good for a lunch time meal. Quiet in the evenings.
