Pub still closed. The signs are still up. But the building now has scaffolding all around and workmen could be seen in the gutted upper floor on my Bank Holiday visit.

Sadly still closed and it may be that a rescue package to keep a pub in the new development (they have planning permission) has failed - no doubt not helped by the current economic climate.
Anyone know more?

closed down, apparently.

Shame this pub has closed. You could always be gauranteed a good athmosphere in here.

Sadly this pub is definitely dead and gorn. There will be no reprieve. It is a shame that you can't get preservation orders on pubs; this one was most worthy.

Last time I visited I thought I had walked through the doors and gone Back To The Future...lol

OK, very short notice but, as some of you know, the Rutland Arms closes for ever next week. Tonight, (tuesday 28th) is the last jazz night - featuring trombone player Mark Nightingale. Love to see anyone who can make it. If not, there is always the last blues night on thursday ! or SEL Camra's farewell pissup on friday ! ...

Fatastic - a proper old fashioned boozer. Miracle of miracles, there are no hanging flower baskets outside! Why do all pubs copy each other and think they need flippin' flowers! I suppose it helps to make the pubs women-friendly.
Six real ales available... excellent! Grubby upholstery and old men with comb-overs - wonderful! Pubs like this are national treasures...
But sadly it looks like the Rutland is about to be turned into flats. A crying shame.

Love this place - but saw threatning looking for sale noticeboard outside last sunday - anyone know anything? is it about to become a Parrot and Plastic?

Definitely the best pub i've found in the area. I can't believe the choice in bitter and ale - couple of Youngs beers, couple of Adnams, couple of Fullers (including ESB, a bit of a favourite), and more besides...
The resident dog isn't really dead, he's just very, very slow... Jumps into life if you rustle a crisp packet near him, but only the first time you do it - he ain't stupid!

Nothing much has changed since Tim's 13/1/2004 comments.... which in itself is a good thing. I however would describe the clientele as "mature and discerning", which probably says all you need to know about Tim and I. The pub has a pleasant atmosphere, which in itself sets it apart from most Catford pubs.

Think 'Jazz Club' from the Fast Show (Whitehouse and Co must've been here before they came up with that sketch!) The Jazz is slightly too loud but the 80+ year old clientelle were swinging their plastic hips to it like a goodun' The Blues on a Thursday is supposed to be top class. Nice beer and friendly staff. A little bit too bright in there if anything. Not bad though (especially for Catford!)

I went in and emerged with a beard. Be careful, you'll find yourself drinking light and bitter you never ordered. Great music though.

A mixture of a "local" and a jazz pub, run by a devoted jazz fan. Jazz on Sunday lunchtimes (with excellent food) Tuesday and Saturdays. Rhythm & Blues Thursday. Monday and Wednesday quiet, but Friday is lively, with the landlord playing the piano (a baby grand!). Excellent beers, all well kept. Never any trouble. Clientele mostly middle-aged.
