We had a few delightful pints of Flower Pot Ale yesterday afternoon, and ended up eating in the restaurant early evening. The latter seems to be a quite separate operation from the pub.
The bar atmosphere changes markedly for the better as the afternoon becomes the evening, and the paint-spattered overalls and cigarettes-behind-the-ear are replaced by perhaps better-chosen attire, and four legs by two.
A heartwarming seven-out-of ten is accordingly sent from yours ay.

A training course in Fareham is nobody's idea of fun so a couple of quick drinks afterwards in the GBG-listed Wheatsheaf was a pretty easy decision. Unfortunately under threat from developers, my visit was timed perfectly as a beer and sausage festival had just started. So, although there are normally 3 guest beers and 2 regular ones (Flower Pots Bitter and Palmers Best), I chose from the 15 guest ales on sale in the walled beer garden. Interesting building too with different rooms and extensions. Friendly service and popular.

First of all I had a problem finding the Wheatsheaf on BITE as it was listed under Fareham. In fact it is in Titchfield.
Enough of my gripe. Our little walking party came up the Titchfield canal after a shore walk from Warsash. On the advice of a local that we bumped into, we chose the Wheatsheaf over the Queens Head & the Bugle. First impressions very good. Pleasant interior with a comfy snug & restaurant. Very good range of well kept real ale. Two Palmers, Flowerpots & one other whose name escapes me. Excellent reception from the lady serving behind the bar. Helpful & attentive without fawning.
We settled into the comfy snug room. We choose off the bar menu, fish & chips, burger & soups. All reasonably priced & all met with our approval. Nice touches two warm rolls with the soup & the butter served in individual bowls. Only downside, it was straight from the fridge. Apart from that minor glitch this was In fact probably one of the best bar meals we have ever had. The desserts were really good, decent size, beautifully presented & they tasted lovely.The waitress was great & we were really made to feel at home.
I am sorry that Whirly had a bad experience but that just goes to show that one can only judge on what one finds on the day. I hope that was a one off for the Wheatsheaf, as I would not hesitate to highly recommend this pub. I rate it 9 out of 10

8 of us ate there on sat eve....disappointing...when you pay £14.95 for a main course in a pub you expect the best. It was tasty and looked good, the veg were lovely but most of the meat (4 out of 5 lamb) and 2 monkfish were overcooked and had very little sauce /'jus'. We asked for more but it never came. One portion was so gristly it was sent back but the replacement - when it came - was overcooked.
No sign of a manager overseeing it.
However - the beers are excellent and its a nice pub - popular with the locals.

Small pub in a pleasant village with a few different small rooms and seemingly with a focus on both ales and food. Flack Manor Flack Catcher, Windsor & Eton Tree Tops, Palmers Best & Flower Tops Bitter was the ale selection. The surroundings are fairly pleasant and it was reasonably busy, albeit on a Saturday night. Staff were friendly.

New review owing to new new ownership. Early days but locals seemed keen and beer still interestingly-sourced from wider than the south. Young chap on bar knowledgeable. I hope this lot manage to make a go of this place as it clearly has potential, without needing to alter it wholesale.
Saying that - your grub must be stratospherically good to sell it at those prices!! All meat/fish mains �10-20, and 3 veg options all �12.50! Rarely does a pub create an all-vegetarian concoction that equates to that sort of levy.

Recently closed and boarded up, another quality boozer gone.
The second pub to close in the village centre in recent times, only the Queens Head and the Bugle are now trading.
Hopefully it may be revived, though to close shortly after a refurbishment is not a good sign?

Well worth a look. Friendly staff and locals. Good range of beers. We tried Christmas Cracker, Flower Pots and Fork Handles. All were well received.

A warm and hearty welcome from the barmaid at this fetching and characterful old local in a classic village setting. The cask beer range was four-strong and the offerings sampled on the last visit were superb. Food is served, and indeed we'd hoped to avail ourselves of some, but alas too much time spent drinking elsehwere beforehand meant we'd missed the boat. Still, the beer's always the main course in effect and crisps etc filled the gap as best they could.
The decor here is very traditional; almost a caricature of what I inagine numerous pub-themers (if there is such a ghastly breed of interferingno-marks) would envisage as the obvious template for a faux-village local in a homogeneous new housing development. But this is the real thing, and you could do far worse than to pop up here and get away from the tedium of Fareham itself, and sample its wares.

Good little local serving 3 real ales of very good quality. Friendly bar staff, good food sure worth a visit.
