Steamhouse, Urmstonback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Paid a visit this lunch time. Was quieter than I was expecting so had no problems finding a seat. 8 pumps at the bar, all of which were on. A few by Marstons and one by Banks's, can't remember them all but I had an Attermire Session IPA by Settle Brewing Company, at £3 exactly. It was a nice IPA, perhaps served a little on the cold side, but it is fair to assume the weather at the moment would affect the ambient temperature of the cellar.
There is plenty of space in what is a fairly interesting building. The small play area is at one end of the building so fairly easy to avoid if you wish to do so. There was a family in and I could not hear them from where I was sat. One of the real coal fires was lit.
On the food side, plenty to choose from on the menu and specials board, and the Cajun chicken burger I went for was delicious with exceptionally tasty chips (and chips are something I am fussy about). That set me back £8.45 so fairly standard pub prices for food.
I had heard that this place brews some of its own beers, but I did not notice that reflected on the pumps.
I would be more than happy to return again, for beer, food, or both!

A decent pub with a good choice of cask ales. One pint that wasn't quite right was quickly changed by the bar staff without any problems. Good food too at reasonable prices. The pub can get busy with families with young children, which isn't everyone's ideal but no doubt means the pub is busy and viable. Overall, well worth a visit and couldn't be handier for the station!

A wider choice of ales and now several imported draught beers. Friendly welcome and efficient service - with the offer of tasters. The Rothaus is excellent. The outside seating area is a great sun trap in fine weather. Well worth a visit. 10/10.

Visited 2pm 29/11/14. Usually good quality beer but today, not the case. My pint was cloudy, just about drinkable, and someone else took back a pint of Thwaites Wainwright. And as for the Rtwo Dtwo beer! Definitely home brew quality. Maybe it will improve if they persevere.

I've always been curious about this pub having passed it many times on express trains between Liverpool and Manchester. Last Saturday I decided to get the 'stopper' train back from Manchester and give it a go. Inside it's nice and airy - a converted station building with a high roof. The vibe is a bit like the Head Of Steam in Huddersfield, albeit on a smaller scale, tastefully decorated with a large main bar area and rooms off to the left and right. When I arrived around 6pm the place was busy, showing a rugby international on TV, and I was almost deafened by someone bellowing "GO ON... GET IN THERE" as I ordered my pint, although the barman did ask him to pipe down a bit! There was a decent selection of 8 handpumps on, unfortunately my first pint (Steam Hopper IPA) wasn't great. Cloudy and tasting more like homebrew than a crisp quality IPA, I should have returned it, and indeed I paid for this a few hours later! Fortunately I stayed for a second (Privateer Dark Revenge), and this was much better - rich and served in perfect condition. The bar staff were generally attentive and friendly although one of the girls admitted she didn't know much about ale because she preferred vodka - fair enough I suppose! On the whole I liked the place and would make an effort to return if passing this way.

Converted station building on the Liverpool bound platfrom of Urmston station. Nicely done out in a reasonable pub style. A slight gripe on the ale front though as the four beers on handpump were all light/golden brews to attract the lager drinkers and no traditional bitters were on offer. that said both the Allgate brews I treied (Pretoria and Valiant) were quite nice. They have a smoking area out on the platform with awnings to keep the rain off whereas the open platform of the station the other side of the picket fence is a no smoking area.

Had a couple of drinks here on Saturday night after a meal at the Italian Job. Really enjoyed it - nice atmosphere, friendly staff, the Halloween decorations were great and the building is really interesting. Lots of buzz about the main bar and the smoking area outside but quieter tables to sit on through in the alcove bit.
The novelty of getting a mini bottle of wine like on a plane was good too!

Was here a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed visiting the place again. Staff have always been very friendly and the lager is well kept. Reasonably priced beer and unusual surroundings all make a visit worthwhile.

Pleasant pub offering interesting range of real ales and various Belgian bottled beers and one on draught. Outside drinking areas at front and a fenced-off area of the platform. The Dunham Honey beer was in very good condition on my visit.

What a top pub this is since the refurb! Urmston is chockful of old-men's-wee smelling dives where the nearest thing to "ale" is a Holts Mild that tastes like a dead dog's been embalmed in it, and this place is just a breath of fresh air.
They've got a changing selection of four ales on tap, have included Dunham Massey and Copper Dragon recently, and they've all been in good nick. I've only eaten there once, and it was decent pub grub with few pretensions (as in, you can get your chicken curry with rice, chips or half-and-half).
All that and pleasant to sit in, not a hint of old-man's-wee in the place. A bit sterile still in the decor, like they've ordered "The Gastropub Look" from a catalogue, but I'm sure they'll get there. A couple of random sprees on eBay is all it needs. Fun to sit out on the platform too, but don't do it if you're recovering from a hangover or the half-hourly fast train to Liverpool will pummel your brain.
I gave them a nine - if they want to earn the extra point, they could put some low lighting in the side rooms and make the front tables nice to sit out at, cos at the moment they are basically in a car park. Really hope Urmston supports this pub because it deserves to do well.

Excellent pub. Trafford and Hulme CAMRA pub of the summer 2009. Top class real ale; frozen cider and the food is supposed to be good too. Watch out for the Christmas beer festival, hopefully on again this year. You may see santa passing by!
