Dolphin, Whitbyback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Tourist pub overlooking the harbour and River Esk. Nice enough and had a decent pint of Tetley's (as decent as you get )

On the way back into town from the old town and we stopped at the imposing Dolphin.
Busy out the front with people enjoying the last of the day's sun.
Double fronted with the bar to your left as you enter. Nautical themed throughout.
6 hand pumps offering 6 different ales with 4 of them being todays guests. Offerings from Scarborough and Whitby Breweries, I went for pints of Whitby Brewery Saltwick Nab @ 4.2% & Scarborough Citra @ 4.2% both decent pints but the Saltwick tasted slightly vinegary. I noted that all 6 ales are cask accredited so obviously the ales are normally well kept.
Busy and then went a tad quiet then got busy again just before 7pm when a group of rowdy lads from Leeds arrived.
A very decent pub that even though its not in the guide I will definitely re visit on my next visit to Whitby.

On a day trip from Scarborough I did the 199 steps to the Abbey & then sought beer. The few I saw on the way down were either shut (it was around 11am), or laughingly twee. The Dolphin was open, & seemed normal, & so it proved. Not many in & all were tourists, so orders took some time, but my pint of Black Sheep was fine, 3.30 which was around par for Whitby. Now the rant: I travel to the UK & elsewhere every year, and a bit of research before departure helps me tell the difference between pubs, tea rooms, restaurants & tourist information bureaus, so I don't waste my time or that of the serving person, or indeed other customers. I am in the minority.

Visited recently whilst on holiday one lunchtime. Five real ales on sale as well as a real cider.Had a good pint of Copper Dragon and nice crab sandwiches. Served by friendly staff and all in all was a very pleasent visit.

Not all that quite honestly. No real ale on visit which considering how many Whitby pubs do do it is really not on.

The pub sits nicely by the swing bridge and river. The exterior is a nice brick build dating to 1912. It also has a patio area. The interior is large and open plan, a little past its best, with some sofas, that perhaps look a little grand for the place. The patio alsways seems crowded, so the place is popular
It is a pub for those that do not really care about beer, just a drink in general. There are no real ales, just the fizz and bland bitter. Therefore, i wouldnt recommend it, as i do, but i am sure if its fizz you want, then this may be good enough for you

This place goes down year by year to an all time low this year with aggressive staff, dirty everthing avoid.

Quick pint in here a few weeks ago. Little bit shabby, but the pint of shandy I had (it was 11.30am, forgive me) was spot on. Not one of the more salubrious pubs in Whitby but it's friendly and has a certain strange charm.
