Most liveliest karaoke bar in Colchester with the best karaoke Ive ever seen. They have a phone app so you can request your songs from your mobile phone as well as an ipad for customers to use to send requests. The Dj is very friendly and fair to everyone who wants to sing. Loads of songs to choose from and the Dj makes even the rubbish singers sound half decent. This is the only place to be in Colchester on a Wednesday night. 10 out of 10.

Sticky floors ..... just awful

Seems like every night is pull a pig night. Its a horrendous mix of pissed up students, squaddies and desperate middle aged women all trying to get a shag. I can only presume the positive reviews on here are from people who were successful.

What an awesome venue! Came in for lunch on a Saturday daytime, the staff were polite and attentive and the food was great value for money. It was clean and tidy and the toilets were immaculate. After an enjoyable lunch (to which I tipped heavily) I went home and got changed for a night out only to find myself back in Yates! What a surprise! It transformed from a great food pub to a lively night bar with amazing music and a buzzing atmosphere...We didn't need to venture on! Highly recommended!

Great! Visited whilst in Colchester on a Hen weekend. Had dinner can recommend the 2.99 Lasagne which was on offer. Moved on to a few other bars and came back to this bar for the entire evening; friendly staff, best atmosphere and DJ was really good!

not a pub

Food is good ... but apart from that !! Avoid the toilets especially !!

Yuk!

If you're looking for a traditional English pub, it's very clear, very quickly, just by standing outside that this is about as far from "traditional English pub" as its physically possible to get.
|
As an American looking for a traditional English pub, it was rather disappointing. I likend it to TGI Fridays or Bennigans in the U.S. The staff was friendly, just not my type of place.

Much better looking since the refurb but still loads of trouble in here and the bouncers are as crap as ever. Especially the tall darker skinned one, gota be the rudest bouncer in town. Its what a yates is, better than a wetherspoons but not quite up to the standards of an edwards. It is full of chavs but can be a good night out so long as you dont mind the trouble!

I like Yates, is good on a Friday or Saturday night, the food is good, good range of drinks, bouncers are friendly, agreed that pre-refurb it was starting to get a bit ming, sticky floors and nasty loo's etc, but is looking really nice now.

....also, I have never seen a fight in there. And even if i had, fights are generally alcohol fuelled, not encouraged by your surroundings. How could it be the venue????? Door staff are quick to hand IF anything did kick off.

I am quite frankly shocked that there are people that view Yates Colchester this way. I would like to say that Yates has just recently been refurbished and so you would not have to worry about your feet sticking to the floor at all. The staff are both friendly and fast and on the whole I personally find it a happy, fun and lively place to enjoy time with my friends, which I may add are over 18 along with everyone else in there. Yates are strict with ID checking which i find refreshing as some pubs don't even bother. As for the school uniform comment made by another member in another post, I just think thats wishful thinking mate! Yates is a decent, clean and great pub!

This must be the worst Yates pub !! Try not to stick to carpet as u walk in !! Normally understaffed .. and not unusual to close early on a Sunday evening due to 'staff training' (read as 'no-one can be arsed to work late') . SWERVE !!!
|
Wow. Get yourself checked out for STI's if you even walk in here. People looked at me funny when they saw I had no sovreighn rings. Chav central and I'm sure I saw that girl in school uniform earlier? If you have taste or prospects avoid!!!

not really my cup of tea. full of kids. Staff seemed uninterested in our requests although was quite busy. Doorman a little rude. Not the best pub but not the worst either...

Yates, its a mixture its good in one sense, when its busy the atmosphere is buzzing and there is always something going on and people to meet, yet the drinks are expensive and i have found there is less choice of drinks than other places.

Typical Yates, its soulless. And caters for those who don't know any better.Full of average chavs.

One of the roughest pubs in Colchester, full of army blokes after only one thing! Really expensive drinks and the managers a really rude guy..

NEVER ANY TROUBLE?? Did the manager himself enter this comment?! Not a bad bar good atmosphere but there is trouble most weeks albeit not always too bad. Better than it has been but not up to Edwards standard.

This pub is the place to be in Colchester. There is never any trouble and it is always busy every night of the week. Most pubs in Colchester are busy only on the weekend but Yates's alwasy has customers. I love it and thats is where everyone goes.

Its a lively and fun place to go, they always play the latest music with some classic golden friday night party tunes. Its got a great relaxed atmosphere although the bouncers sometimes make you feel uneasy. The prices are reasonable with plenty of special offers on your favourite drinks!
