5 real ales were on last saturday, the two we tried were both well kept & at £2.70 a pint good value too. standard pub grub at proper prices (burger £2.70 & ploughmans £6) walked up cross country from Rye, the path leads you out opposite the pub. got the bus back which also stops right outside.

I'm very fond of this place, though I don't get in very often. It retains the quality of a real village local (which is what it is) but remains a place where an occasional visitor can feel welcome and at home. Generally a good range of beers, always in my experience in good nick. The landlady is a real character, and presides over a pub which is full of character too.

Village pub split into 3 distinct sections. The section to the left has a pool table and a few sofas, the central section has a more traditional feel, complete with a boar's head and a wood burner, whilst the room to the right is set slightly below the other sections and is presumably used for diners. The pub had a kind of untouched rustic feel, which I quite liked. Beers were Fullers ESB, Thwaites Original, Rother Valley Copper Ale, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Harveys Best Bitter. Ciders were Stowford Press and the rarely seen Stowford Export. I would quite happily return if I didn't live 2 hours drive away.

Friendly welcoming local pub, good atmosphere

Alice and Graham are excellent hosts so too are the other bar tenders. We visit England on a regular basis from Australia and we find that Alice has always remembered our names and what we drink. Food great. We get a warm welcome not only from Alice but from the locals themselves. Congratulations to Alice and Graham for a great pub and hospitality, keep up the good work. Mick and Denise

This is a brilliant pub. It's the only real pub for miles around, in fact, I don't know where there is another proper old pub like this. Pub food such as cold meat with bubble and squeak or stews or ham,egg & chips - none of this pretentious overpriced gastro rubbish. Thank the Lord for Alice the landlady. Excellent beers too.

A wonderful country pub, popped in for a quick pint after a walk but could have easily stayed for hours. very welcoming, lovely comfortable chairs around a log fire and 5 real ales, 2 of which were being sold for 1.60 a pint. The food looked good value too.

Beer OK, Smells a bit stale. A local pub for locals only...
|
Plenty of good real ales, pub grub that is below par and is only served for about three hours a day, coupled with a pool table that gives the local chavs entertainment, poor.

Delightful pub run by charming landlady and super-friendly staff. Well kept beers and several guest ones on rotation - pool and darts, welcoming and cosy. Highly recommended in tranquil village location.
