Recently joined this site after moving down to Taunton in this area, Lovely pub with good food but far to pricey to use as a local shame but nice for the odd lunch.

Enjoyed a lunchtime visit here - we were pleasantly surprised by good value meals available (I had the gammon). Well kept Palmer's 200 to go with it. Friendly staff. Will visit here again.

As promised went in again to sample the food, had a really excellent steakdone to perfection and the creamy mushroom sauce was to die for, expecting to pay upwards of 15 was very surprised that it was under a tennerfantastic value. My partner had the 10oz gammon again fantastic value and a meal she really enjoyed. The new Landlady Les could not have been more welcoming and the staff were a good laugh. Had my usual Palmers Best which was very good and sampled a half of the Copper, again a well-kept beer which I was told did not hang around long as it was a favourite of the locals

Went in at the weekend, under new management again but with definite potential, had the Palmers Best which was most excellent, other punters on the Gold which also looked good. Good pub-grub food menu which I will probably sample on my next visit

Went last Friday for an early xmas get together. Booked for 13 on the back of a carvery advert the meals appeared in a plated form, minus yorkshire puddings, because it was easier for the staff. My meal ok except for the soggy biscuit with my cheese. Wife's startrd still frozen but thankfully she was warmed up by the gravy stained knife that was dropped down her back by the bargirl collecting plates. There's clearly a reason why she's not a waitress! It was dissappointing to witness the staff's inability to say 'no' to two morons who were consuming Jagerbombs at 7 and 4 minute intervals. Neither could stand with confidence, and one, clearly the village idiot, was rendered horizontal on the floor of the gents. If their licence is valued they need someone with b****cks behind the bar. All that said, the Palmers 200 and Gold was in fine shape.

Great evening had by all!
Me and a few friends went into the Master Thatcher for an evening drink, having heard it had NEW OWNERS. New owners were very nice and all the staff were all polite, the beer was good bit pricey (brewery pubs tend to be a bit more expensive anyway) but lovely. Looked at the food menu which looks good too. Cant wait for the return visit with my friends.

It sounds as though the Master Thatcher may be getting its act together. Putting single mothers and their brats in the corner is one thing; ideally they should not be allowed in in the first place. Perhaps that will come later. What sort of slapper takes a baby into a pub anyway. If the kid is not a problem now, it sure will be in a few years time. Lets hope Chav87 is just the first of the benefit scrounging low life to decide to go elsewhere. As for the pub losing the profit from her business; they are more likely to increase their profits by chucking out all single mothers and their brats. Maybe more free spending working people will decide to go there, although I won't hold my breath.

I went to this pub for 2 years and every Thursday was invited to let my son watch pool by some local pubs but when I went in there today was told to sit in a corner with my child. Why after all this time is my 2 year old suddenly a problem when he's always good as gold! I'm disgusted with how iv been treated and feel iv been badly reacted to as a single mother! Master thatcher should be ashamed of itself and a select member of It's staff! Until this has been dealt with accordingly I will not enter the premises again, hense them losing out weekly profit

Need a second mortgage and a large bodyguard to drink in here!

Aweful!

don't be fooled by the thatched roof - typical estate pub - full of chavvy kids who think their Mike Tyson....drive on !

I have just come back from a drink at my sisters local pub the Master Thatcher. Decided to share with my sister a bottle of house white which at the high price of nearly 11, I thought it would be at least of a drinkable standard...
It was in fact the worst bottle of wine I have ever tasted, I decided to take it back to the bar wondering if it was off. To be greated with an unhelpful barmaid who said house wine is always crap! i did question her customer service skills. Eventually a begrudging manager allowed us to change it to a different bottlle paying all the difference of 1.
Having travelled from Brighton I won't be coming back!!

Eight of us visited the master thatcher on Tuesday 15th December 2009 for a christmas meal....
We were rushed to order our meal even though booked and were on time 7.30 p.m... but they were expecting a rush.......
Well no one else arrived, and we see why!
Once the food came it was absolutely dreadful.
We should have walked but decided to eat it anyway, didn't really want to make a fuss. It was very expensive.
I felt compelled to make a comment when they came to clear our plates... I said actually I have to say the food was very disappointing.....The manageress was very abrupt. I explained everyone complaints the fish sauce tasting odd, the steak very chewy, the fish was over cooked etc. etc. she walked off in a huff with no apology.........
I thought at the very least we might have a reduction, when the bill came but no nothing , honestly we were all so disappointed and felt totally ripped off. Our night was spoilt.............
Also the drink prices are are a joke. This is the most expensive pub in Taunton.
All in all: -
* Dreadfull prices... * Appalling Service... * And Disgusting Food...
Sorry Master Thatcher you need to up your game and lower your prices, otherwise you'll be going under..

Unbelievable!
Went (well tried to) for a few beers and some food with a party of 8 from work at about 8:00pm one midweek night only to be told that because they'd been quiet all day they'd decided to close early. Well correct me if I'm wrong but pubs and restaurants tend to be quiet in the day when most of us are out at work. It's in the evenings we want to go for a beer and something to eat. And we weren't the only party turned away. Another group of 6 arrived just after us. So that's 14 for beer and food, maybe 300 plus turned away. With management like that this'll be the next in a long line of Taunton pubs to go under.
As I said - unbelievable!

It is a very pleasant venue, well constructed building, food is pretty good, beer garden- on the downside had a meal here in the summer with a friend and had a drink in the garden only to hear awful language from a table of drunken youths-spoilt the day.

I used this pub quite often when I first moved to Taunton, Palmers beer was always available and always good. Have'nt been back for a good few years now.........will investigate and report back soon.
