user reviews of Boat and Anchor Inn, Bridgwater

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

We stopped off here recently and its really not as bad as some of the reviews make out. The service was fine and the food was good. Its a pub next to a canal not the Ritz, would come again again.

Called in for a pint while walking the canal towpath - beer was average, didn't eat so can't comment, service was so-so. It may not be the most impressive establishment but I really don't think it warrants the PMT rantings of some of the previous posts, that surely isn't what this site is supposed to be about.

Thanks ZipButtons. Pan_Gloss and Final_Arbiter are either the same person, or at least they constantly back each other up (countless times) They often are nasty, pointless and racist. Many of their reviews are just for that purpose. If they are different people, Pan_Gloss is more low, common and rude (vulgar) than F_A. They stick their ugly noses in other peoples reviews the whole time. I've pointed out to them before how below the belt that is, and that anyone could do that. They often reveal identical racism. I'm going to spoil Pan_Scum's fun now. If I get removed, big deal A ? I'll just open up another one. Harass jealous interfering pigs I say.

The pot calling the kettle black, me thinks

Hoist with my own petard.

Perhaps you meant to type "their"?
I imagine that he (or they) meant SPAXTON? (Always was a garbage pub)

Could "Arbitarily_down_the_pan " (sic) & "ZipButtons" be the same person? Neither can spell and both have mis-spelt arsehole as areshole. How can anyone be taken seriously when they can't even spell there own (pseudo) name
Dr_Pangloss - 13 Apr 2011 19:54
I can't find Spraxton.
The_Final_Arbiter - 13 Apr 2011 19:45
I agree 'Arbitarily_down_the_pan' For example check out this vile Pan_gloss areshole's review of The Lamb in Spraxton (famous for its pies)

"Never seen this place open so I cant judge the pub, but, the caravan parked outside makes it look like a pikey camp."

Nasty, pointless and racist.

R U Loathsome should rename himself to "i am loathesome" , he certainly is. If he had any brains, he would have checked this site (specifically for this pub) and realised that ordering a greek salad might be a cause for disappointment. He sound like one of those uneducated oiks you get in Bridgwater, I doubt if he's ever been out of Somerset, let alone to Greece. Clearly a narrow minded racist bigot.
I know this is a shitty pub, it doesn't pretend to be anything else, but hey, this is Bridgwater. RUloathsome needs to get over it. If he cant afford to eat in proper restaurants, he should try getting a better paid job.

Terrible. We ordered Greek salad because it was on the menu and my wife fancied something light not heavy like cheddar! The food was quite frankly woeful. The owner is also the chef and took great exception when politely told the cheese was not feta. In fact he was from the school which says the customer is never right and certainly never deserves an apology. He wouldn't even try his own food, refusing, which is unusual for a chef. Steer clear guys. Bridgewater has far better to offer.

What do you expect from a shitty pub beside the motoway in Bridgwater?
If you expect local produce why ask for feta cheese which by definition cannot be made in Somerset. Go for locally produced Cheddar instead.
You have made a misery of mother's day for the owners of this pub, and should feel ashamed for doing so.
Please go back to whence you came

Disgusting !!!!!!!!!!!! We took our mother in law here for a mothers day lunch. I don't think it could have been worse. The food is overpriced, under sized, terrible and wholly processed. When a complaint was made, the response was totally unhelpful and aggressive completely ruining the meal for my mother in law.

2 Greek salads were ordered - when they arrived they had some white mush on them which was passed off as feta cheese. It looked nothing like feta and it tasted terrible. We explained extremely politely to the waitress that we did not think it was feta.
The answer came back from the kitchen that it was. We asked to see the chef and the owner appeared. He "was not having that" when asked if it was feta? We asked for the packaging and he explained the cheese came from a can!!! The can had been disposed of and the cheese and brine left in plastic boxes in the fridge. When asked to try the cheese he declined. The owner had a argument with us in front of everyone. Eventually all we could say is that we don't want the food at which point the owner said "fine" snatched the bowls from the table and stormed off.

I think the cheese coming from a can probably says it all about this establishment - I doubt any of the food is actually made on site. The chips for example are the mass produced catering sack variety sold by low rent outlets the length of the country. At almost 3 for a small plastic bowl of them served with the Daddies sauce bottle on the table the food has all the class of a road side cafe. The bread is the cheap, part cooked heat in the oven type that is good for about 6 months in the sealed packaging it arrives in.
The owner must be making a huge profit dishing out the rubbish that we experienced with such an offensive attitude!!!!

There have to be better places to eat in the area - we will certainly be looking for them.
A memorable Mothers day; for all the wrong reasons. We have never left a review before but felt so strongly we thought it was best to save others from a similar experience that upset the whole family!

Not the greatest location close to the M5 but it is quiet enough to sit outside by the canal. Pretty much the only pub on the towpath between Taunton and Bridgwater. You can park up to ride bikes or even launch a canoe from here before you have a pint or some food. We had the Sunday carvery, 8 and not bad value, fair choice of veggie and fish alternatives too. Nice enough pint of Butcombe and there's a parrot too!

Could be quite a good pub, but it isn't
Dr_Pangloss - 17 Jan 2009 23:31
Food pub under a motorway. It is next to the canal, but the garden level is below the canal so no view of the one redeeming feature
