I tried venus again recently after many many years. I'd avoided it for quite a while as it had suddenly gone downhill and was full of people I really didn't want to spend my evening with....
So I was pleasantly surprised to pop back in to find it heading back to it's old ways. The food was really nice and the house red was lovely! I have been back a few times since and will be making it my local haunt again.
No it may not be an ultrglam place - but it's a welcome relief from the table dancing rugger buggers in The Tup. You can actually have a conversation without shouting over crap dance music or rowdyness.
Good work!

A friend of mine told me about Venus so I've went there with friends for drink and dinner and must say we had really great time. Food was nice and service was very good. Staff are friendly. Think it will be my local.

Reorganised tables and seating to give more room for comfort. We are also very female friendly i.e no unwanted hassle from desperate guys

Logged on to this site for first time in 5 years and am concerned about some comments. In our efforts to get only decent customers we've obviously upset the few undesirables who instead of airing their views directly, have chosen to smear our name using anonymous, malicious and unconstructive comments on the internet. We've taken on board the rational comments and strive to improve on our already positive reputation. Alas, some issues can only be tackled with a substantial cash outlay which is not available. We thank all our customers for their continued support.

This is a very very odd place. I have been there a few times over the past four years and I have to say it is very confused! I go there when the tup is too busy...the one and only reason.
The interior looks like MFI, the food is horrendous and the atmosphere is as dull as dishwater. The management have attempted a Greek theme although it looks naff and really needs a facelift. What is with the horrible blue sofas?
It just needs to be a bar, lots of sofas, basic pub food and a selection of wines and beers. It's in a prime location.
Owners, if you're reading this please listen to the comments. A few thousand pounds could make this place fantastic!

have to say i agree with other postings .....
a bit of a hhhhmmmm ; a sahem really as it could be great with the right input

Truly bizarre experience ... was in on weekday lunchtime with a mate as had been to the post office next door and reckoned we would grab a drink rather than hurry back to office. Has so much potential ... hopefully it will be refurbished and become somewhere people want to go to. Ideal location.

its like an old british rail station cafe in the 70's. the lanky bloke behind the bar is about as friendly as a broken clothes horse.

Potential here but it is very dingy looking from the outside and the layout of the tables needs some serious reconsideration, far too formal in rows that remind me of my schooldays. Clearly geared towards food service, crammed as many tables in as possible, and while the food is decent I can't help thinking that if they chucked out half the tables they'd get three times as many customers in here. Staff are friendly enough but it just doesn't feel comfortable in here. 4/10.

I walk past this place most evenings. It has potential to be a great place. It is next to the tube station and the redesign of the tower and tower island will bring in more people. They need to look at the local market. There are more and more professionals moving into the area with high disposable income looking for somewhere to spend it. We have to go to the Tup as it is the only place that appeals to us. I have not even been tempted to go into Venus. It looks like a dark, dingy, boreing pub trying to find its identity. There are also some odd looking people sitting by the windows that would put anyone off.
Come on...Get some more light, get some events and get some big screens for sport. Do you not want our cash?

It's like drinking in legoland the place is so small! Lacks any charater, seems morelike a coffee shop, staff are friendly enough though.

Can't quite make its mind up whether its a bar, a cafe or a restaurant. Kind of lacking identity. Ok place to stop for a beer.

Hi - I am one of the people in the "monsterous couple" who used to own and run Venus - sad to say that during 2003 we were really sick of being there and our hearts weren't in it - however, the food standards never dropped and Jo, my dear, whoever you are, you clearly deserve your opinion, however untrue. We wish Arthur the very best at Venus, it was our dream when it opened in 2001 - he is very different to us - but we are very happy to be out of London.

I miss thre old owners. The food is still the same, but lacks the friendliness it used to have.

It's okay, feels like a set of a TV show though. Bit small.

Chairs are awful, and they are the same ones the landlord has put in my kitchen! Pitty me. The food is nice though.

I agree with Laura about the cosyness-I think its to do with those awful tables and chairs, I feel like Im back at school. However, the new guy is much nicer than that monsterous couple who ran it before and last time I ate it was very good!

Half price steak on Tue and Thu evening before 9pm. AND you can have it with mash instead of chip. The drinks are expensive but the atmosphere is nice. Not cosy at all.

This place looks loads better than it did.The food I ate was beautiful and there were some really nice people in there. The boss was a very quiet bloke-but seemed very nice and not-in-yer-face kind of guy. Keep up the good work!

Ummmmmmmm different kinda place, not in a bad way though. Its nice but bad in the same way! What ever happend to the old waitress/barbird they had a while ago?? Thats the only reason why many people went there!!

Dodgy breakfasts all lumped into a pile and service that makes you want to thank them for letting you in the door.

Pricey, noisy, not much atmosphere but better than the Victory over the road!

Very laid back bar right by Collier's Wood tube station. Great for a relaxing brunch on a sunday with a newspaper.
