Interesting interior attempt at a modern bar, largely successful, but with some very odd seating arrangements (teetering stools and cushions at small, square tables). Beer was alright, but only that, which is surprising as I presume it's a marquee venue for Shepherd Neame (who, in my opinion, do make some fairly bland ale). Food and prices perhaps inflated to reflect the prestige for which the brewery is striving. I wasn't tempted to linger, as, while very busy with an agreeable crowd of mainly young drinkers and diners, it wasn't very relaxing, feeling a bit like a drinking corrall before dining. It's also difficult to get to by anything other than car, which is a good way to keep out hardened boozers and barflies, I suppose. Despite my experiences, I did appreciate it was being enjoyed by the presentable, attractive and happy young folk there, which is far better than the dirty, dingey boozers frequented by aggressive yobs to be found throughout Chatham.

This place has Sadly let down the brewery. Lack lustre service. Beer tasting of pipe cleaner Food mediocre at near London prices
Seems there's never many staff there for long and given the turnover i'm unsurprised that consistent quality is rife
Avoid if you value your insides !

A little spendy and not much atmos but still a decent enough pub with reasonable Sheps beer.

Not a lot of character at all but the Sunday lunch is very nice. Nice views of the river but that's about it. But food wise, it seems to be very nice indeed and the beer is good.

Shepherd Neame pub. Quite popular, and sometimes difficult to get a table. Feels more like a modern bar than a pub - and even though built in an old building in the old dockyard, lacks charm and atmosphere. It's OK, and the snug on the right is pleasant, but it's a little pricey, and not as good as you hope it will be.

We called in the other Sunday after walking aroun St.Mary's Island and admiring the buildings and scenery. The pub is light and airy, and quite busy although we had no problems finding seats. Yes it was lacking in atmosphere and I always feel uncomfortable when I see staff in a common uniform. Sunday lunches are eaten upstairs in the restaurant but at other times (so I was told) food is eaten in the bar. Very nice views of the Marina outside. We intend to return and see what the food is like. Promising.

A complete lack of atmosphere and you can never get anywhere to sit

Despite being converted from an old Royal Dockyard building, the place doesn't have a great deal of character. It does, however, have a potentially good setting by the marina, and I can imagine it is a pleasant place to sit outside on a sunny day (provided that there aren't too many noisy children tearing around). Nice pint of Early Bird.

This pub generally serves the local businesses which operate in the area and is busy most lunch times.
At any other time, it is slightly below average - it lacks character, atmosphere and isn't worth going out of your way for. The food is disappointing of standard quality, probably slightly better than Wetherspoons.
The staff are ok and make an effort. In the summer, the seating is very welcoming outside and has good views over the river.
Overall, ok but not worth going out of your way for. It should be busy and successful considering the lack of competition and its situ but it just isn't and is never likely to be.

This pub as my local is a bit disappointing. It has the atmosphere of a damp grey day all the time.
The staff however are always freindly, with resonable food and a wide range of beer and wine. In the summer the patio is open and its a nice family pub to bring the kids during the day.
