Sizeable, lively pub [with plenty of seating]. efficient barmaid, only 2 ales on our recent visit, I had Coach-house 'Scrumdown', a decent pint.

A drinking barn with loads of screens. If you want to watch the sport it's ok and does serve a reasonable pint.

Large Wetherspoonesque pub on Wigan’s main drinking street. Several semi-separate drinking / eating areas with a central bar. For some reason when we were there, although there were plenty of people in the pub, a couple of the areas weren’t being used with chairs turned upside down on tables. Shows sport on large screen TVs. After we sat down, we wondered why no-one was watching our screen. As we were leaving we realised that was because there was a truly enormous screen besides the entrance.
A reasonable range of 4 or 5 real ales available on handpump. I had the Bank Top Port’o’Call. Unfortunately this was served way too cold for my taste, but was really nice once it had warmed up.
There was a wide range of food available, which looked interesting enough for us to consider eating there on our next visit (we had already eaten this time).
6/10 – reliable not revolutionary

Comfortable spacious establishment, but does not have a smoking area, Staff were friendly and it had 6 real ales on; I indulged in George Wright's Brewing Co. 'Farmhands Bitter' [very nice] & Navigation 'Golden Anchor' [a nice smooth pint].

Friendly welcome on our most recent visit - good range of beers (Copper Dragon Summer Ale plus 2 very good ones from Reedley Hallows Brewery). Didn't eat but just had a pint. Only spoilt by a few very loud Wigan fans who for their age were acting like schoolkids! Shame - this pub does get very busy with music nights etc.

There's nothing special about this place, in fact everything about it is reminiscent of a slightly more upmarket, slightly more expensive Wetherspoon's. There's a good choice of beers and service is quick but that's about all. it's fine as part of a tour or if you want a quick meal.

First time visit to this pub and it has quite an impressive Victoriana style interior with a mezzanine level and what looks like a dance floor at the front. Reasonable selection of well-kept real ales (we had a couple of pints of Copper Dragon "Golden Pippin" - very nice and refreshing.) Sadly we appeared to be the only cask beer drinkers as most of the other punters (footie fans) were downing pints of Fosters - well at least they shouldn't get drunk on that natspiss!!! They do food but they do employ bouncers although we didn't have any trouble. It's worth a visit and it's brilliant for both railway stations.

visited this place admittedly after seeing it listed in good beer guide but from outside it looks far too trendy and lively to be the pub, then i walked in and discovered a sixteen barrel beer fest with beers straight from the barrel at 2.50 and raising cash for help for heroes,8/10

Large chain style drinking barn (with upper galleries) across the road from Wallgate station. A few ales on (all at 2 a pint). Tried the Butcombe Gold which was nice and gold and lager like - but it was a warm day and went down well.

This place was fairly busy on a Saturday lunchtime. The interior is open plan and very similar to the Wetherspoons just up the road. Lots of TVs show sporting events. Scottish football was showing during our visit. Ales on were Moorhouses Royal Appointment, Theakston Lightfoot, Deuchars IPA, Wells Bombardier & Courage Directors. Despite its lack of character, this was the best of 3 Wigan pubs I tried.

on a friday night over 20 years this is one of the few pubs i went in was a good pub then and despite only been in twice in 10 years went in 2 weeks found it still a good pub in wigan. beer was excellent but the pub was quiet midweek afternoon only a few in but 100 times better than pub across the road. harrys pub

Pleasant pub opposite Wallgate rail station and 3 mins from Wigan North Western station. It's had a standard refit so looks like any other large boozer but is comfortable, friendly and has a reasonable beer choice.

Large pub on the corner of King Street and Wallgate that tries to be everything to everbody. In fairness, it largely succeeds, as despite being a circuit pub later on, it is certainly in a different class to most of the surrounding bars. It has one of the best beer ranges in Wigan with many beers from outside the region which are rarely seen round here. Most major sporting events are shown, there is food in the day and it gets very busy later on. Worth a pop if waiting for a train in the daytime, or if doing a crawl in the evening- if the inevitable mass drunkenness outside doesn't faze you.
