Fairly quiet on our recent visits, friendly helpful barstaff; only one ale on again, 'Lancaster Bomber' which was a well kept & only £2 a pint.

Only 1 ale on during our recent visit, Marston's 'Sweet Chariot' [nice fruity ale].
|
A Marstons corporate barn with no character of any description. Not really worth a visit but clean and tidy enough.
|
Now called The White Horse, much improved, decent interior, friendly helpful bar staff, good beer garden. 3 ales on I had Youngs 'Special' on my two visits, a nice ale.
|
Went in, no cask ales on [Hobgoblin was still 'settling'] so didn't stay.

Homophobic type abuse seems tolerated by management and staff. I witnessed a smartly dressed woman being abused verbally and loudly by a group of drunken middle aged men who were accusing her of being "it's a man" and "bloody tranny"as she tried to have a quiet coffee. Nothing was said by the management and she was forced to leave after enduring it for at least 20 minutes. I won't be calling in again if the management and staff think this kind of behaviour is acceptable from their customers..

not been in for 11 years the last being when warriors played at central park being 5 mins walk from the old ground. had a marston pedigree which was a good pint. notice how cheap the food was tempted to try but as it was mid afternoon decided against it. a few in the pub and found the pub to be ok.

Unremarkable town centre pub that toiled along with no direction or reason to go in until last year's rebranding and fire. Now it's badged as Marston's and reopened, so had a go. It's architecturally unremarkable, with the main interest the mosaic floor in the doorway which tells us that it used to be 'The White Horse'. This area once teemed with pubs, now this is the last one. One large area has part-partitions creating a separate feeling, with two front areas (one of which has a library of ancient books) and the larger bar room at the back. 2 smallish TVs showing Sky sports Darts and a jukebox are available, as well as a cheap standard menu. Lights perhaps a little bright which detracts from the atmosphere, which is that of a typical circuit boozer. It's never been a real ale stronghold, but since the takeover at least it features, although 3 of the 6 pumps were out of use on my visit. Jennings Lakeland Stunner, Banks' bitter and Pedigree were available, not a mind-blowing selection but better than many of Wigan's pubs. The Stunner was in pretty good form, a light citrussy pint. Perfectly ordinary boozer- there's not much wrong with it, and it's certainly an improvement on what it was and I m ay be tempted to pop in again, but on the whole pretty unremarkable and not one to prioritise if in town.

My local .. new management and a new atmosphere. The run down air has gone with the new food menu (at last) and an overall welcoming and friendly pub. Karaoke at the weekends and excellent beers. Usually a guest though they say they want to increase the selection. Be impressed.. along with the Oak this is a quality pub these days.
