please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

CAMRA's Yorkshire Pub of the Year 2012 - an award thoroughly deserved (it was 3rd last year and 2nd the year before). Beer superb quality and great choice, always a dark beer for example. Locals welcoming, a true village community pub.

There are now a total of 5 cask beers always on offer! TT Landlord and 4 others, one of which will be a dark variety, and usually at least one, of above average potency.
Some directions to find the Jemmy Hirst:
St James Church is in the middle of Rawcliffe Green, kind of hard to miss. Immediately outside the front of the Church is a brick-built Bus shelter, opposite which is the entrance to Bell Lane. Go down to the very end of Bell Lane, and turn Left. The Pub is about 200 metres further on.

My last review said that the Jemmy "had gone from strength to strength" and I'm pleased to say that my synopsis has not changed a bit.

This pub must be visited by anyone into supporting the survival of one the last remaining British community institutions - the pub!

Why, oh why, doesn't this site offer an "11" rating?

Enjoy and cheers!

Just to reiterate how good this pub is.

Not easy to find in the dark though!

Landlord, Deuchars, Fyne's Maverick and Adnam's Old Ale were on.

I chose the Old and the Maverick and they were both in tiptop condition as expected.

Some interesting bookshelves around a real fireplace, complete with model sailing ship on mantlepiece.

Maverick was the 1072nd beer they have had on in just over three years.

Next time I will go by train and relatively inexpensive bus ( so the landlady told me! )

Smashing, proper pub. Always four ales on and always in tip-top condition. Often a porter or stout for those who like the dark! Friendly couple run it, friendly punters use it. Lots of village activities, walking trips etc. Wish I didn't have to drive there!!

A great pub, a rural version of Cambridge's Carlton or Brirmingham's Wellington. Some of the best beer ever tasted (Farne Island) and a very traditional pub atmosphere. Took me 20 minutes to find, but it's a lovely village to explore on foot. The chinese take-away on the High Street is fantastic too.

Without a doubt this is the finest alehouse in the Howden/Goole area. As commented by Simon - not the easiest to find right on the riverbank - if in doubt find the river and keep going round until you find it. Believe me you will not be sorry.
Ale is consistently changing and equally consistently good. No piped music and a great aatmosphere. Please visit and spread the word.

This pub continues to go from strength to strength. Timothy Taylor Landlord is supplemented by three constantly changing real ales (to date they have had over 500 different beers!).

The beer quality, ambience and welcome is second to none and this has been recognised by several awards including local CAMRA's Pub of The Year 2004 and again in 2005.

A visit to this pub is not only highly recommended, it is mandatory if you are in the area...cheers!

Fiendly pub, both staff and locals. Orval has to be met. A very "crisp" oriented dog.The beer is always on top form, with a good selection of brews and brewerys

There aren't too many pubs around here that concentrate on Real Ale, so I'm rather lucky to live near this one.
The atmosphere in the "Rose" is always freindly and welcoming.
It's not the easiest place in the world to find, but many of the better things in life are only acheived with a little effort.....

Traditional village local overlooking the River Aire. Emphasis on conversation and good handpulled cask beers from independent breweries. Timothy Taylor Landlord is always available together with two regularly changing guest beers. Pub dog 'Orval' is a bouvier des flandres and loves meeting people, especially if they are buying crisps. Food limited to bar snacks.
