Another nicely located pub in the Dee Valley, not too far from the Horseshoe Pass and Llangollen. The landlord seems a bit of an eccentric, but is certainly very cheerful. I don't think its ever taken so long to be served, as he went through the full repertoire! The bar area is tiny, with just enough room for 3 tables and a couple of bar stools. There is a separate dining area and a garden to the rear. Ales were Conwy Welsh Pride & Infusion. A little pricey. But clearly a well-run hostelry that is definitely worth a visit.

spent wed afternoon trying to contact this pub re opening hours.old tel no. no longer valid.No answer from the abbey grange either.walked to the pub from corwen thursday,arrived 1.50pm to find it was not open until 5pm.for those wishing to visit/contact the pub the hrs are mon-thur 1700-2300.fri 1200-1430 & 1700-2300.w-end 1200-1100.new telephone no is 01978 860860.i`m hoping for better luck next time

Recently re-opened country pub in Rhewl, nr Llangollen. Friendly landlord and landlady. Meals are very reasonable and delicious! Beef and Ale Pie is amazing! Large car park and lovely sun trap garden. Well worth the visit. So much character and Pete and Sharon make you feel very welcome.

The Sun Inn reopened on 22/3/2013 under the ownership of the nearby Abbey Grange Hotel and Llangollen Brewery.
Llangollen Brewery beers are on sale but guests will be added.
As the new landlord improves the facilities, this old drovers inn is set for a new lease of life.

Lovely walk to this pub to find it was closed, disapointing.

This pub has now closed as of about a month ago. Landlord said it was not financially viable and largely unpatronised by locals. Agrees that it is a great shame for the people who did use it. There was no formal announcement (I live in the village) and I heard tghe news from a nearby landlord. It is currently being stripped of all fixtures and fittings due to disharmony between the lessee and the owner. We shall have to wait and see what the owner is going to do with this very attractive old listed building - another holiday let or second home, let;s hope not!

I also found this once well frequented Inn sadly missing heart, we called in in October, as a family of 8, the fire was blazing and we were hungry.
The Landlord dismissed our attempts to get attention as he was obviously entertaining friends, however he came over when we decided to leave.
We ordered meals, most of which were 'not available' and to my horror we watched as he wiped down the bar with the dirtiest cloth I have ever seen and then went to the kitchen, all could be seen from the tiny back room were we sat, he then started to prepare raw meat without so much as a hand wash. Our meals arrived minus one that 'he forgot' by this time I really didnt want the meal (yes thankfully it was mine). the manager quickly returned to his friends ( smoking at the bar).... I wont be going back there ever again, sadly it seems to have really gone downhill.

Think you may be right about that. was looknig forward to a visit this Thursday night and it was closed, not a sign of life which led to us driving straight past initially. I was very disappointed as it sounds like it was a cracker. Here's hoping things improve and I get to visit.

Well, it looks like I'm the first to post on this one as well.
The Sun Inn is a 14th century former drovers inn situated in splendid countryside a few miles away from Llangollen and close to the well known Horseshoe Pass.
It's a white washed building of great character internally. There's three separate small old fashioned rooms, traditionally furnished and with low dark beams. In one of the rooms is a splendid fireplace.
It's a difficult pub to get to - driving carefully down a winding country lane for several miles with a couple of blind corners and not enough passing places, so be prepared to reverse on occasions. The lane seems to wind on for ever and you'd be forgiven for thinking you must have missed it or taken a wrong turning.
Unfortunately, my Saturday lunchtime visit - 12 September - was rather unsatisfactory, I'm afraid to say and, at a guess, I suspect the pub has changed hands from my last visit 4-5 years ago when I was desperately impressed all round.
Arriving at the pub at about 12.55pm, I was not desperately impressed to find the pub closed and several other groups of customers waiting patiently by their cars. This was despite an expected midday opening. One of the other potential customers - clearly a friend of the landlord - told me that the landlord was on his way back to the pub, but had been held up by traffic. There was no sign of life from inside the pub and I noticed that the day's post was still evident in the door latch.
The landlord eventually arrived in a white jeep, looking rather unconcerned and laid back and opened up at about 1.05pm. Several customers quickly drove off, after being told unexpectedly that no food would be served that session ( the pub has a good reputation for its home-cooked food ).
I decided to stay, finding 2 real ales on - Facers Flintshire Bitter and Postlethwaite Bitter from the Coach House Brewery. The former was an enjoyable pint at � 2.50p for an ABV of 3.7%. The pub has had a number of GBG listings over the years.
There's a pleasant outside seating area at the back but, perhaps tellingly, some dirty glasses were still on the tables uncollected from the previous day. The wash basin in the gents outside toilet was filthy, even after making due allowance.
The Sun Inn is a charming and characterful little old pub, but I'm afraid that I was left with the distinct impression that management is making little, if any, effort. Based on my visit, there is a clear lack of customer focus.
