Vistited the Libertine a couple of times last week as it was the nearest establishment to our accomodation. Had a super pizza and they had a good range of keg beers but not much cop in the ale department. Very large place and its location close to LV's offices means it has gone for a metropolitan wine/cocktail/Starbucks/Yates bar feel - not cosy but not really bad either. All very clean and tidy and both visits were good in terms of staff and quality of drinks. Would go back again.

This pub has changed into The Libertine with a new make-over as an upmarket pub. Known locally as The Listerine.

THIS LOCAL PUB HAS NOW CLOSED FOR REFIT. UNDERSTAND IT WILL BE A WINE BISTRO AND NO LONGER HAVE LIVE BANDS. MANAGEMENT IS CHANGING AND A WHOLE NEW ERA WILL BEGIN. WISH ALL THE BEST TO THE LAST MANAGEMENT TEAM.

My wife and I are regulars in the Hogs and have always found the staff and other regulars to be friendly. We often dine there and find the food good and value for money. Saturday night there is usually live music with varied bands each week. I would recommend a visit.

As with all pubs not everything is perfect, The hogshead is a pleasant place to come and dine, have a laugh and enjoy the food and drinks offers that are available. Unfortunately not everyone agrees which is a shame. Personalities will and do clash from time to time, customers to staff and reverse, overall the hogshead is a place to visit and see for yourselves.

All i can say about this pub is that is delivers a fantatstic experience. upon reading all thoes negitive comments i can only belive that thoes people are trouble makers. I have been coming to this pub for around two years now. I come alone to drink and bring my family to eat. The food is very good value for money, and you definetly can't fault the quality. I aslo enjoy drinking the real ales which they have there. Which i must say allways taste to the higest of standards. anyone reading this do not be put off by some of the comments below. If you enjoy good food, cheap drinks and a friendly atmosphere this would be one of my top choices. congratulations on the reward i have just learned you have recieved...it just shows that you must all be doing something write!! well done!

What a lot of bull those reviews are. . One can only think that they have recently been "helped to leave" by the young man who they refer to. My whole family have and still do use this pub on a regular basis and find that the staff and managers go out of their way to be helpful and most welcoming. Carry on the good work and ignore the pratts that just want to cause trouble and upset. I have rated this 10 out of 10 as you dont have the option for 100 out of 100

great pub, great food, polite staff, polite landlady, as a regular the pub is friendly and welcoming, overall 10/10

I must admit I was surprised to read all of the negative reviews below about the Hogs head. I have been there to both drink and eat on several occasions and found the staff to be very kind and attentive, although they are all admittedly on the younger side and may therefore come off as rude to older patrons. I was especially surprised to read both waddlestg and MrDoyle's comments about the large, tattoed barman, who served me on one occasion and made me feel very welcome and also made me laugh with his dry sense of humour, which maybe wouldn't be appreciated by the more mature customer.
I do agree, however, that the average clientele does leave something to be desired at certain times of day, when you're looking for a quiet drink and there's a lot of hullabaloo going on. I'd agree that there appears to be a problem with racist groups of people making others seem unwelcome, and certainly more could be done by management to discourage this. However, it has to be noted that it would be a formidable task to take on some of these punters.
I am a fan of the impromptu party and think it adds something to a night out if you're looking for a bit of twee fun, which admittedly most people probably aren't. I'm not so sure about the CHRISTMAS party on 29 August though. Hmm...
Don't be discouraged by the negative reviews below! As long as you're not an a-hole then I'm sure the staff will be courteous and professional! WORTH CHECKING OUT.

Very pleased to hear that this pub was under new management and just had to visit as it was a regular haunt of ours until March 08. On walking into the pub it was clear that the new management had been hard at work cleaning and making the place welcoming. The whole place looked clean and the staff looked as if they were pleased to see you instead of the reception that was given to you by the previous landlady and landlord. Lovely carvery and all nice and fresh. Last visit to the pub the menu had been changed and there was plenty to choose from and special on a board. Very pleased to say that it was a great pleasure to visit this local pub and enjoy the whole experience. Will make this a regular weekly outing. Well done to all at the Hogshead.

I recently visited this pub for a carvery, the staff were miserable and unhelpful and the carvery was vile, tastless and unedible.

Bit misleading as this is not part of the Hogshead chain. In fact this place was around well before the Hogshead pubs started springing up right, left and centre. This pub is low ceilinged and pretty dreary, never seen a crowd in there and you can't get a decent pint.
