Station Tavern, Grosmontback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Bar staff did not have a clue how to change a cask. Beer range not impressive.

I have been coming here for around 25 years, albeit maybe once or twice a year, and have seen the pub go through numerous ups and downs but this is the first time I have ever not physically wanted to go back. It has never been an ale haven, or a gourmets emporium, but you could get a reasonably priced meal, and decent pint here. Well not any more. £3.65, yes that's £3.65 for a pint of not even good ale, to sit in a fly infested pub (with food being served, hideous) with all the atmosphere of a funeral parlour. Whether the prices had been hiked for the event on the adjacent railway I'm unsure, if so that's bad enough. If not it's scandalous. Now it may be that during the day they have the monopoly here, I understand the only other drinking establishment, the Crossing Club (private club), does not open till 8. And the village is the end point of the penultimate stage of the coast to coast walk, where a thirsty walker craves a pint. But that doesn't excuse this garbage. When there are 3 people in a villages local pub at 9.00 on a Saturday night it's pretty clear something's very wrong. Avoid like the plague, undeserving of any meritorious plaudits.
PS by way of comparison I was in a real ale pub in Pickering that was under £3.00 a pint. The pub at Egton with a decent range of beers, I paid £3.00 a pint My friend visited the crossing club and paid £2.90 a pint.
That just confirms my suspicions.

The Grosmont Tavern is a delightful pub adjacent to the terminus of the North York Moors Railway. It is run by a delightfully friendly couple and has a beer garden out the front that offers atmospheric views of the steam trains as they depart Grosmont station.
There is comfortable accommodation but for special event weekends you will need to book well in advance.
The food is reasonable but as has been noted by some other reviewers, it could to do with changing its drink selection from time to time, but well worth a visit all the same.

Pretty boring ale choice and the Black Sheep particularly is a shadow of its former self. There are so many FANTASTIC beers being brewed within a few miles of this pub why bring in a beer from Adnams which for some reason just doesn't travel well and never tastes like it does in Southwold. The service is so much better these days in this pub; just wish I would want a second pint

Agree with most of the other reviews - Black Sheep, Strongarm and Greene King IPA (why?) this weekend. The first 2 were is great condition although a little expensive for the area at 2.90.
Service can be a little slow when a crowd suddenly pour in from a train not least because of the very tight sparklers used!
Well wort a visit though.

Good local boozer. Friendly staff, good food and a mix of locals and walkers and train enthusiasts. Front bar can be a bit crowded when busy but good mix of friendly locals and tourists.

A sturdy Yorkshire local. This is right by Grosmont railway station, It's an OK place - a local's pub, but also welcoming to the tourists travelling on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, and the walkers on Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk. We drank here in 2005 when I had a nice pint of Camerons Strongarm. The pub wasn't listed on BITE back then, so I sent in details, and it took so long to get the pub on the site that I had forgotten all about it, until looking at my rating of Strongarm on RateBeer.

Could not as for a more convenient position if you're travelling the steam railway between Pickering and Grosmont. A no frills family-run pub with high quality if not very out-of-the-ordinary beers (Black Sheep, John Smith & Strongarm). Maybe its best feature is the outdoor drining area by the front door, where one can watch the world and the trains go by.
