De Rhodes Arms, Barlboroughback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
The carvery food here is a bargain, the crowds ensuring that it is cooked fresh, with endless supplies of fresh veg and meat as if on a conveyor belt. I visit often for a good substantial dinner. Food is fairly consistent. The decor is fine but the place has a bit of a canteen type atmosphere. The cheapness attracts less well off people and without wishing to appear snobbish (but knowing that I do) the large council estates in the area provide a lot of its custom, with a fair proportion of chav families as they say. If you want a good bargain meal and can put up with hordes of kids running to the endless ice cream machine then it's the place for you. Another Crown carvery ,the Moorlands at Owler Bar has slightly better food for the same price and a slightly more upmarket clientelle.

i used to work here and its disgusting they would drop meat on the floor by accident then pick it up again as not to waste profit. veg is just tasteless and bland and your overcharged by quite a bit for your puddings when they only cost 50p in total for ingrediants then they separate it all up into 20 portions charging you nearly a fiver for some microwave cooked shit

Usual Crown Carveries selection, handy for J30 of the M1. Good value carvery food plus a couple of cask ales.
|
Cheap and verging on nasty, but still very cheap if that's what you want. I seem to remember it being a lot better than this. Still a carvery for 3 or whatever, you get what you pay for!

crown carveries and toby inns are to have cask ales on offer.

The "pub & carvery" pub chain, owned by mitchell & butler, appears to have been re-named "crown carveries", but remains under the same ownership.
|
The original name of this pub is the "de rhodes arms". it now appears to have been renamed "de rodes arms". internet searches on both names appears to work.

The De Rhodes sits by the mini roundabout at Barlborough on the A619 to worksop, near M1 junction 30. It is part of the "pub & carvery" chain, belonging to mitchell & butler. It is quite a sizeable premises, having been extended in the past, and has its own good-sized car park. *** Theres outdoor seating to the front, and inside the main bar and carvery area, plus a conservatory and annex. I would guess seating is for around 100. The place is clean & tidy, and well looked after. The small bar has a handful of keg beers, plus the usual drinks range. Prices not too bad. Tetley keg at 2. No cask ales currently. *** De Rhodes is primarily a dining pub. The carvery dominates the menu, being served mon-sat all day at 3.50, and all day sun at 6.50. There is a handful of alternative mains, plus starters & sweets. *** make no mistake though, this is not some cheap, make-shift, microwaved offering. There is a good range of oven cooked, serve-yourself veg and trimmings sitting alongside 3 large cuts of roast meat. usually ham, turkey and beef. All the meat is carved from the bone for each customer, and you can have whatever combination you choose. It is a meal you would probably pay double for elsewhere.
verdict: absolutely unbeatable value on meals at 3.50. you know, I do like a bargain!
