This was right up the street from where I used to live, and I went there once...only once. The downstairs bar was dank, unwelcoming, and generally unpleasant. Not the sort of place to go if yo've got other options. I haven't see it since it went through rehab, so to be fair, it might be fantastic now. But it sure wasn't last time I was there...

Went here on Sep 6 (see below) and had a cracking evening. The downstairs had been refurbed...very slick. Lots of comfy sofas and cool club look. An excellent contrast to the eclectic north african styling of restaurant bar up stairs....sadly my friend no longer runs the place and it's under new ownership (that'll be why the tel. no. no longer works)
Now called the Nile Bar downstairs and apparently upstairs in being converted into a bakery.....shame

Went past it on the bus the other day and it looks like it's been revamped. Not yet open yet as far as I could tell.

The Ark has not been repossessed, in fact it re-opens this Friday. Run by a friend of mine...who is not the manager in the tale below.
To be as unbiased as possible, the upstairs morroccan restaurant is hard to beat and the club downstairs has been the venue for many a good party.
Looking forward to this Friday's re-lauch party in the new improved Ark bar. Might even drop by and let you know how it went.

My mates hired out the Ark Bar for a Xmas party in 2001 and asked me to DJ. I was pretty much bricking it having never played out before, but once I relaxed it was great fun.
We were outnumbered by regular customers and everyone seemed up for it - the atmos is pretty chilled - the owner danced his arse off and the cute barmaid got me a complimentary drink which was nice.
What ruined it for me and the others were the mates of the owners who seemed to think they could walk up to the PA system whenever they liked and just cut into a pop CD in the middle of my tunes.
We asked the manager to rein them in but he was too pissed to care. In the end we left after one of them demanded I get my "f**king hands off" him when I attempted to stop him from cutting out my just-mixed-into disco house tune with some bad generic garage pap.
We walked out of our own party carrying decks and records as these lads, a gang of drunk Johnny foreigners, screamed their heads off to Billy Joel's 'Uptown girl'.
Other people tell me that it's quite a nice place providing, I suppose, that you don't book an event there.
