DON'T GO TO THIS DISGRACEFUL PUB (IF YOU WANT A PLEASANT EVENING)!! This used to be an excellent Nottingham, micro-brewery pub! It was run by an owner who took pride in good beer making, employed highly professional staff and gave up space to let a nice Thai family provide wonderful meals........Then it was sold on and the current owner/manager hasn't got a clue!! The owner/manager is highly aggressive in his attitudes, ruined the beer from day one, employs poorly-trained staff, and, all in all, overseen the slow destruction of a quality pub! Nottingham has plenty of great pubs but this is certainly not one of them...With any luck it will close before long, leaving more space for good pubs to flourish!!

Well....... Rude staff, We ordered 2 halves, a diet coke and a coffee. We were served our halves and coke but asked if we minded to wait a short while for the coffee, we said we did not mind. she went off and served others. THe staff have no concept of who to serve next. The beer we were served was horrible, Warm, Cloudy and just horrible taste. We had almost finsihed our drinks and still no sign of the coffee. When politly asked if it would be long as we were almost ready to leave the young lady snapped, I am on my own and serving. (Well not our problem. you took the order and money) Not a very nice place, not very nice beer. Will not be returning.

Shocking beer (one was warm and cloudy - both had a really unpleasant taste to them. The service was poor and as we disliked the beer so much we left rather quickly.

This pub looked like a bit of a dump from the outside and I was wondering whether it was still the brewery tap for the Alcazar Brewery. Sure enough it us. The entrance has some nice tiling and inside, there is a traditional townhouse interior. There were 5 Alcazar beers being dispensed - Alcazar Ale, New Dawn, Vixen's Vice, Fox Tale Ale & Windjammer IPA. I plumped for the Fox Tale, which wasn't in the best of condition. Looking around, as the previous reviewer states, there weren't many people drinking the real ales. So turnover of stock could be a concern. There was a pool table in one corner and TVs were showing the Canadian F1 Grand Prix. Nearly all tables were taken on my early Sunday evening visit. So this is clearly a popular local pub where the interior belies the exterior. Worth a visit, despite the questionable beer quality.

Thai food was excellent on my recent visit. I would say restaurant standard.
Only about four of their beers available on a Friday night. Maybe they just can't shift it in enough quantity to retain quality. Most of the locals seemed to be drinking anonymous corporate lager.

nice food, if a tad overpriced, but the beer is really poor. The Alcazar beers, being always warm, old and with a dodgy smell, are a real let down. Thank god they're generally confined to this place.

I keep going to this pub to try and get used to Alcazar beers but I still think they lack something although there are about 6-8 to choose from. The Thai food is good though and the barmaid was pleasant enough on our last visit. Not far from Basford tram stop and I'll probably go back again !

Visited 27/7/10, 6.30pm
Hadn't been here for a couple of years. Lots of people scoffing the excellent-looking Thai cuisine. About 8 Alcazar beers on. I tried 3 and they were all in poor condition. The first two were too warm, like they'd been in the pipe all day, and the third was clear but undrinkable.
The two sweet young things behind the bar were a bit disinterested in what they were doing. I shall be e-mailing Alcazar to get them to kick whoever runs the place these days. There was no sign of a manager on my visit.

Excellent pub serving excellent beers. Good discount for CAMRA members! (25p a pint).

Visited during the afternoon when it wasn't wildly busy but quite a few people there. Friendly barlady asked if I was a CAMRA member because I would get a discount [note to self : I must look dodgy!], Having got the discount, beers were superb, will definitely re-visit.

The bar staff (especially the plump girl with long blonde hair) are rude and slow and appear to be grudgingly serving customers whilst chatting on their mobiles then short-changing. However, the catering staff are just the opposite and served us wonderfully presented and tasty Thai food with lovely smiles. Also Dave who runs the adjoining Alcazar Brewery was great giving our group a tour.

Popped in for the first time yesterday and found the staff very friendly and the beers superb. Selection of seven real ales (five light, one mild, one dark). Pub was clean and tidy, and we were made to feel welcome.

sadly going down hill. Managment and staff have a strange view on customer relations. The customer is never right. Beers still good, though and the thai food excellent.

very good range of beers, Thai food decent, the best pub in Bulwell/Basford by a country mile.
|
I have heard so much about this pub that I had to catch a tram on a recent crawl round Nottingham. The area was a bit quiet but the pub was busy and the ales were good. Plenty of choice and worth the visit.

Been a regular there for a few years now. Good beers and food, so far. New management in place the last few months, juke box and quiz machine recently installed, much to the disgust of the regulars. 7/10 (for the beers!)

Great pub, used to be a student at the halls round the corner and was in here all the time. I take it Dave and Tammie are still running the place? Alcazar ales are great and the food was first class. A must visit boozer

Just been to their beer festival - they had a very impressive selection from new breweries all in excellent condition. The Alacazar Brewery is attached to the pub, the 8% stout, previously only available in bottled form, is now available on draught and is absolutely delicious. Haven't tried the thai food, though their pizzas are delicious

Lovely pub, excellent beer (I'm a big fan of the 'Brush Bitter') and first class Thai food. Introduced friends from across Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire to the place and all have enjoyed their visit.

beers and food were both good on my visit. Beers mostly from the local Alcazar brewery. Nice beer garden out the back.
|
Complacency has set in at the Fox and Crown. The beers used to be good but now all have a common peculiar flavour a bit like straw in fact. Not just a one off unfortunately. Prices are creeping up aswell.
|
very nice boozer good food good beer and lovely staff one of my fav in Notts
|
Awesome pub, friendly staff, and Terry with a fiendish quiz. If it didn't shut we'd never go home.

Great variety of lagers as well as Real Ales, and 5 mins off the tram route - highly recommended (and the Thai food is something else!)

Brilliant for real ale fanatics. As well as a variety of their own brews, regular guests are available and also dozens of bottled beers from the continent.
