I disagree with the bad reviews for this pub. Admittedly I was only there for an hour but the service was good, they had two decent ales (as well as the usual largers) and a pizza my sister ordered arrived promptly and was tasty. The music was really good too - a great pub for a pre-gig pint and bite to eat.

rubbish of the highest order - do not believe "excellent drinker" !
currently for sale at way over less than half what it was paid for. Crikey

This place goes off on a Friday, when Jez is in town. Watch your Minkies!

an excellent pub. very good beer on tap - crisp and clean - served by cheery bar maids and men and the occasional eastern euro beauty. limited food menu, but good burgers. a nice place to spend a drunken afternoon. definatly worth a trip from north london

Went there last night and it's not really much to write home about. The bar staff started tidying everything away at about ten - we ended up sitting at the bar surrounded by tables with the chairs on top of them. We left around eleven, maybe even slightly before, I nipped to the toilet and by the time I got back they'd put my bar stool on the bar and were waiting to lock up. Not very friendly.

I go there regularly at lunchtimes and after work - don't believe the bad reviews! Good choice of wines, beers, and, as of recently, spirits. 6 lunch special is a winner even if you sometimes have to wait a while. Vegetarian options continue to improve, although avoid the indian style veggie burger. Service can be patchy - there seems to be a lot of turnover - but the owners are lovely. Fine beer garden in the back and squishy sofas next to a fire when it's cold.

Have been here a few times before gigs at the Academy but I won't be going back again. Nice pub but the flakey bar staff trying to do several things at once make buying a drink a slow, frustrating experience, even on fairly quiet nights.

Seems like this place might have been going through a bad patch but it has picked up now. Doing Sunday roasts but get there early (lunchtime-ish) as they have sold out recently by about 5pm! Great big portions, and really tasty! Veggies still not that well catered for but there is always at least one option. As for the place itself, nice sofas, lovely garden, smiles from the staff, good range of beers both on tap and bottled, shows football games every weekend, a good little hangout...

This has been a favourite of mine for a couple of years but appears to have changed hands recently and seems to be going down hill. The current staff lack attention and this has the biggest impact on the food side of the business. Recently, my vegetarian partner has been served pork sausage despite quite specifically asking for the vegetarian option and then with my own Sunday lunch order, the latest chef doesn't appear to be able to tell the difference between chicken and pork or lamb and beef. I agree that this remains a great place to see the football but if you're hungry, just stick to having a bag of crisps!

Boring and bar staff are up their arses

It's an OK pub - but much better atmos in bars and pubs just round the corner in Brixton. Gastro pub it is not - unless you are quite literally happy to wait an hour for a meal and the waitress not even apologise or acknowledge the wait. Meals made with tired rather than fresh ingredients. On a more positive note a great place to watch a big match - just don't bother eating there.

Far enough away from the chaos that is Brixton but near enough to sup and eat before engaging in a spot of crowd-surfing at a Brixton Academy gig, this unpretentious bar suits all tastes and also attracts a fair few lesbos !! splendid.

This is a great place. Food excellent. Staff effcient and friendly. Manages to be both stylish and warm. I wish they'd bring back the pictures they used to have up though.

Quite a nice place for an evenings drinking. A bit spartan inside, although the snug areas at the back are nice, and the bar layout is good with friendly staff.

It's been under new management for over a year and half now, and has become an excellent drinking hole, less than 10 mins walk from either Stockwell or Brixton tubes. Top grub 7 days a week, cracking sound system and varied DJs and live music keep the joint jumpin'. Add to this the extended weekend licence and well, we've finally got a decent Friday night alternative to those dodgy Brixton baaaaaaars. 9/10

oh...and they have a flat panel tv that they stick on for big matches - plus they have live bands now and again.

Place reopened months ago after a full refurb: there's the obligatory bleached wooden floor and furniture, plus the garden at the rear has been overhauled and cleaned right up. Food is great (try their organic beef burger) and its worth a glance at the specials board... clientele: Brixtonites with a touch more cash in their pocket.

This has now shit down and when I passed it recently seemed to be being redeveloped as a Gary Larsson (sp?) far side themed pub. We shall see if its as good as the Zbud. For one things its got location on its side - v close to the Swan
