Oops! A slip meant that what I intended to be "5/10" came out as "5/5".

Lovely views from one side of this place (which is why I stopped, having remembered it from years ago); but it a pretty average Arkell's place with not very much to distinguish it. Service and beer were also pretty average. Still, clean and reasonably friendly. 5/5

At least it was open and the Arkells Hoperator I had was more than acceptable after 15 mile hike - clean and friendly...what's the problem?

Typical Arkells outlet, no input from the Brewer to make sure his pubs reflect his attitude.............ah! maybe they do? AVOID

If you want good service, don't visit this pub, customer told us the menu is on the board, chose our items (ham, egg ad chips) ordered our drinks and were told blakcboard menu available 6-9pm only, gave us a bar menu, not much choice but settled for ham ploughmans, jacket potatoe with chilli, two people who obviously were known got their meal of HAM, EGG & WEDGES! when I queried this the publican told me that this was left over from the party who had just finished their meal we then waited 45 mins and still no meal we then decided to leave, told the publican we could wait no more and left he followed us out and told us our meal would be ready shortly when we told him about the wait he said I'm not going to argue with you and left. After having worked in a bistro myself I was disgusted with his manner will not be visiting ever again.

An odd place, but surprisingly pleasant. Ended up here waiting for a train. Was given a very friendly welcome by the staff (if not the regulars) and offered the choice of having my Cornish pasty microwaved instead of the usual cooking in the oven in order not to miss my train. Large beer garden. Apparently under new (good) management. Not quite good enough to be a destination in its own right, but nice enough - and a curious exception to the 'rule' that pubs near stations are always ghastly.
