Good Beer Guide 2020 pub.
Traditional on the opposite side of the castle to town.
Stand pub interior with lots of wrought ironwork. Few high chairs at the bar and multi level flooring offering nooks and crannies elsewhere.
Orkney Dark Island in perfect condition.

Visited in April 2013 and can only echo other reviews. Great selection of ales well kept, friendly staff and a lovely old building. Noot very big so can get very crowded but well worth a visit

Probably the best pub in Inverness for ale though it is a bit of a victim of it's own success at times as it can be a bit TOO busy. A good selection of well kept ales and proper pub feel to the place.

Best in town. 5 pumps including Trade Winds and Cromarty HC. A long afternoon!

Consistently very good indeed. I probably manage in here no more than twice a year but am always warmly welcomed. Best pub in the Highland City, no doubt.

A terrific pub with a good range of excellent real ales. We really enjoyed the Tradewinds beer, the friendly bar staff and the footie on the big screens. Perhaps the best pub in town?

An attractive looking stone-built pub right at the top of Castle Street, and with great views across to the castle. At the front is a decent sized patio with plenty of bench tables and chairs, a wrought ironwork gazebo at the rear and an attractive selection of hanging baskets and plant troughs. There is even a small bar counter here, although this was not in use on our visit. A blackboard listed not only the current beer offerings, but also those that were coming soon.
The pub itself is remarkably small, with a single bar. There are plenty of pictures on the walls, a plasma mounted high up, a fruit machine and an attractive wood panelled bar. Upstairs is a separate restaurant area with some wood panelling, red drape curtains and plenty of squashed in tables and chairs. There is an extensive pub grub menu and a small specials board. What we had was decent enough and generous portions, but perhaps a little on the expensive side a Scampi & chips was over 9.
Beers on this occasion were Atlas Nimbus, Orkney Best, Midsummer Madness, Sun Dance and Dark Munro. The solitary cider was Olde English.

Friendly enough pub, although there only ever seemed to be one person behind the bar at any one time, so get stuck behing a large order and you could have a bit of a wait. Luckily I was in no hurry, so just waited patiently, and the beer was dedfinitely woth the few minutes wait. Nice location, it was nice sitting in the garden, and I could not fault the beer. Definitely worth a visit.

Rammed with football fans (and subsequently relegated to the chilly garden), the beer at least made up for it. Dark Island is normally reliable in any case. Despite being busy, the crowd were pleasant enough.

Went in again last Friday. My mate and I had a pint of Wildcat and then Tradewinds, both of which were excellent. The food was fantastic. I had the steak and ale pie and it was cooked to perfection. My mate had the venison, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Both came with veg and salad and not an iceberg lttuce in sight. Brilliant. Can't praise the place too highly.

Great Pub, Good beer.
|
Great little pub near the castle. Good quality food at very reasonable price. Will be paying a visit next time I'm in Inverness.

Agree with the last review. It's a good pub and good pint too!! it's a must for the "Real Ale Drinker"

Small, cosy pub situated just below Inverness Castle. Five handpumps, I sampled the Isle of Skye's Flora McDonald, a light refreshing beer and the Highland Brewing Co's Dark Munro, which was a porter type beer. Both were well kept. On a return visit, I saw Isle of Skye Red Cuillin and Blaven, and Cairngorm Wild Cat and Trade Winds. I had two pints of the Trade Winds which were good. Only negatives were the rather harsh lighting and a large TV (which was on with the sound off!) Outside seating at front. A good pub and the place to go for real ale drinkers visiting Inverness.

Lovely - small but perfectly formed pub.. Well kept beers and the food looked good. Difficult to get a table though - shame it's not got more space as I'm sure they could fill it several times over at the moment. There is an outdoor area with seating for the few months of the year it's feasible to sit out.

This is a great CAMRA pub. Cairngorm Wild Cat and Trade Winds, Belhaven 80' and Hebridean Brewing Company Berserker at 7.5% were available on my visit. I sat outside on a chilly late August evening making use of the patio heaters because it was deservedly full inside.
|
I really enjoyed the food here, staff were friendly, but I couldn't drink one of the beers. The barmaid did replace it, though, and the replacement was very good. Well worth a visit.

Wonderful pub, best in Inverness by a long way. Great beer, great food and great staff. I was in town for the marathon and I had the good luck to find the pubs beer festival on. Plenty of Scottish real ale took the pain out of my legs!. Can't wait to go back next year.
