Looks a little scruffy on the outside, almost put us off going in. However we were glad we did. Lots of character and plenty of nooks and crannies. The Dartmoor IPA was in good condition. Also had Legend on, but didn't try it. The Mrs said the shandy was fine too. Nice welcome from the landlady(?) who topped up the glasses without asking. Small menu with specials, and also a small appetite option. Welcomed by Shandy Chica. Seemed to be a few a locals in at lunch time, plus the odd tourist. Well worth a visit.

Recently visited this pub in midweek. The beer was fine, well kept etc but the food was awful. All of it frozen and microwaved - the bread roll wasn't thawed properly - fish was industrially produced, all in all very poor. I haven't been to a pub with such poor food for many a long year.

This has to be one of the cosyiest oldy wordly pubs i have ever been in. A fantasic place just like going back in time with two bars and a number of nooks and crannies to suit all. We sat in the quieter back bar which had it's own bar with a small bell to order! My only complaint was that they only had two real ales on and a pub like this needs more than that.

Popped in during a short visit to Ashburton. I didn't visit every pub in the town but this one did appear to have the most character:-cosy bar area with low ceilings, wood beams, church pew type seats and a fireplace. Nothing to dislike but needed a few more bodies to make some atmosphere. That said , everywhere in the town seemed quiet for a Saturday night:-maybe the affect of the penultimate night of the Olympics. Dartmoor IPA and Dartmoor Legend as a guest. If you like pubs with some character and ambience then my guess is that this is the must visit pub in the town.

Pleasant small town pub on the edge of Dartmoor with a couple of ales and a cider. Dartmoor IPA & Bays 2012 plus Ashridge Cider from the fridge were on offer during our visit last weekend. The interior has fairly low beams and continues back a little further than it appears at first glance. The locals seemed fairly keen on watching horse racing. Parking is difficult in the narrow streets of this town. But this is well worth a visit if you ever find yourself here and is also worth the detour off the main road (A30?).

Lovely pub run by Pam and Jim, always friendly and cost with a good pint of Dartmoor IPA and homemade food. In my view the best all round pub in Ashburton. Keep up the good work.

What a miserable old woman behind the jump. When I pointed out that a 4.5% cannot be classed as an IPA she virtually dismissed me as an idiot. That I may be but I do know my beers. She even thought Greene King (sorry for swearing) were a good organisation. Will not go in there again.

We returned to this pub recently during our annual trip to the area and they have got rid of the excellent Badger brews that they have had for some time. Instead they had a mixture of Dartmoor and Greene King. This is sad becuase their Badger offerings were good. The Dartmoor was okay though and the pub retains its ambience.

I use this cosy little pub every time I'm in the area and it never fails to impress. The landlord really knows how to keep his beer and the food is of a resonable quality as well. There is a small walled beer garden at the back. For the architecturally minded among you, the front bar is original, having been built circa 1130 and it retains many features. When I was there last, they had Badger and Dartmoor on draught.
