Woolpack Hotel, Wainfleetback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
I agree with philg7. The place could do with a decorate/clean.
A group of us stayed at the Woolpack for the weekend. I can, personally, cope with "tired" decor of some pub B&Bs, but not with basic things missing from the rooms. E.g. no cups (despite having a kettle!), or no tea/coffee, or not enough towels, or no toilet rolls, or no bath mat or broken fittings, sockets hanging off walls. Pretty basic stuff!! most easily remidied by someone checking the rooms before guests arrived. Several rooms had TWO sets of bunk beds in them, despite being described as "twin rooms".
No one told us the breakfast times and no one asked us what we wanted to eat! There was no fruit juice or cereals.I arrived at breakfast, sat down and then had a plate of "full English" plonked down in front of me - no one asked what I would like (which was not that!). Some folk didn't get their food until they had gone into the kitchen to ask, having already waited 25 mins for someone to come out. Again, we had to ask for some tea, more hot water, tea spoons and there wern't enough cups out in the breakfast room. Bit like Fawlty Towers.
Strangest thing was that no one acknowledged our existence at the place. Normallly, at such a place, the landlord/lady would at least chat to you, ask what you would like to eat, ask if rooms OK or something, or just general chitchat. Nothing. It seemed as if they had absolutely no interest in folk staying staying there.
The loud music/Karaoke from the bar and smokers shouting/swearing outside the front door (my room was above) all carried on till 2am on both Sat & Sun mornings. I got home with bad sleep deprivation - not what I would call a restful weekend's stay.

I expected more from a town centre pub! Mucky carpets, poor decor, dirty glasses- all put me in no mood to eat!! On enquiring about food was told that they were not doing any(1.00pm-tuesday lunch!). having narrowly escaped eating there we were directed to the local chipshop- the landlord neglected to tell us there were two other pubs well within walking distance. the Red Lion was unfortunately closed, The Royal Oak was open and serving food. the welcome was much better, food and beer great- most importantly it was CLEAN!! shall not return to the woolpack.

We went here Sunday evening 18/7/10 and took a while to get served even though they weren't busy. The Batemans XB was very nice. The barman seemed miserable and only had Prawn Cocktail or Steak and Onion crisps which were chucked on the bar in passing after we paid.No food so we left after one drink.Hundreds of cigarette ends outside the front door gave it a shabby appearance.

Interesting how 'stingray12' has only reviewed the one pub, methinks I smell a rat here!

Outside looks good at first glance, the insides... well where do you start, the decor is dated, and none too clean. The rooms... Hmmm. Carpets were dirty, bed bases not clean looked decidedly grubby, the quilt cover has cigarette burns on it, and the walls had a sillouette of dirt where the headboard had been. There was a dirty towel from a previuos occupant still hanging up in the bathroom. the toilet had to be cleaned by my wife before she would even use it. Plus a power socket hanging off the wall. The friday night Kareoke went on till gone 2.00. Breakfasts however were good, apart from the staff could have done with washing their hands first.
Good points None, except the Red Lion is only a short walk down the road, and they made us very welcome. Wish we had stayed there.

I attended the woolpack hotel for a meal, two day break and to test Batemans XB from the Breweries town. The landlady was bubbly and bright even though at my time there i saw her at her busiest. The landlord knew a lot about his ales and had the time to chat (which is always a good thing) I was told about the new carpet and the decor looked good and was very relaxing. The room was clean and my wife loved it as fresh flowers were found on our entrance. The entertainment was great i am a firm believer in live music i was bought up on this. The beer was A1. We enjoyed a meal on saturday which was the large mixed grill and the carvary on saturday. My wife has allergies to certain foods and this was all taken in to consideration the landlady sat down and had time to go through alternatives. Congratulations to the woolpack and long may they reign. We will be seeing you next year.

Oh dear oh dear where do you start? Well the outside I suppose, a run down tatty exterior all smeared chalk boards and empty window boxes and pealing paint. This pub ought to be Batemans flagship pub in the village it perports to be a 'Hotel' and in the past I've stayed there, I wouldnt now. The interior is tired, shabby and rundown, the carpets hadn't been cleaned since the previous night, tables were dirty, and the landlord (presumably) was miserable in the extreme, and served me a very average pint of XB. Batemans ought to be thoroughly ashamed of the state of this pub and they need to spend a few thousand getting it up to scratch before the place falls down.

We stayed there, ate there and drank there. The room was ok. Beer and cider was ok. Bar staff didn't acknowledge we were there until we smiled encouragingly for about five minutes. Meal was beyond belief bad.
Ordered something foolproof, Scampi Chips and Peas. It arrived and there were only 5 small bits of scampi on the plate, for 7 and something. We pointed it out, requested some more pieces. She disappeared for 10 minutes, (cue backround noise from kitchen of fun and laughs and weird music) then came back to tell me that was all they had. She really didn't care. Told her i wasn't paying full price, got it down to 4.50. We finished ASAP and went down the road for a drink elsewhere. Don't expect to order your own breakfast either, you get what your given. Shame, as it could be a nice space.
