please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Staying locally we enjoyed a mid-week evening visit for a meal - the burger, and fish and chips - which were both tasty and with large portions, if a bit pricey. The staff were friendly and attentive, a little over-attentive perhaps and they seemed to want to push their special deals on us despite telling them we're unlikely to return as we're not local. There's a cosy garden area out the back where we sat after our meal with another drink as it was rather warm inside (no air conditioning?) following a hot day.

Maybe do a 3rd review it will be less suspicious...

visited this place again when the landlord generously opened his doors early to allow my girlfriend to clean herself up after falling off her bike going down the massive hill which precedes the approach to the pub. Very helpful and even invited us to a party the following month. Good range of ales. I had the 6X

A delightful pub, steeped in history and a good range of ales. I had a nice pint of Spring Top and they also had Aspall's cider on tap. Also had a delightful little bar snack of Breaded Brie and Fruit Chutney

Mixed feelings about this place. Literally all staff were Eastern European, hardly a 'village local' like it so desperately wants to be... I hope this isn't reported for being "rayciss". The food was good, had Doombar so not complaining. 7/10

Couldn't believe our luck stumbling on this place. Warm welcome from attentive and knowledgeable landlord, Kevin and staff. My husband thought he'd died and gone to heaven - great beers on tap, fabulous atmosphere, excellent food and great wine. Although there are expensive things on the menu, you can eat cheaply too so don't have to spend a fortune. We stayed far longer than we'd planned and have already booked again. Best pub I've been to in years.

After visiting this pub tonight, I can honestly say I have never had such good service, such a warm welcome, and such good beer in Kent, or the UK. The landlord took the time to talk, enthusiastically, about his beer with me. (He assures me Timothy Taylors is going to be a permanent feature soon, alongside Harveys Sussex and Doom Bar), the rest of the staff were as attentive and the whole place had an amazing warm atmosphere. If I never go to another pub as long as I live I will be a happy man. We decided to go after booking through top table and reading the reviews, and what a find. Thank you to the whole team for making our christmas meal so special, we shall be returning soon to sample the Timmy T's!

Fantastic Food, good beer ...
In a 13th Century building.

Formerly The Pilgrims Rest and before that The King's Head, if you are after a quality meal this is definitely worth a visit.

By discouraging people from congregating round the bar and insisting on taking orders at the table (yes, even for drinks), they've effectively turned this into a posh restaurant and snuffed out yet another village pub.

I liked the look and feel of this place. Food was very good and served in good time. Only down side was the odd tasting coke in tiny glasses. Beautiful area and friendly staff. High point was seeing may father in-law bang his head against a beam as he read the sign to duck.

As reviewed on another site; new owners obviously spent a fortune on refurbishment to create what appears to be the perfect village restaurant/pub. Unfortunately, we had the bell rung (I didn't know this still went on!) at 9.45pm on a Sunday evening. The three black clad staff in a huddle by the bar obviously wanted to go home, no matter that our tab was running up a nice income for the owner. Paid our 80 and virtually heard the door lock behind us. Tempted to cancel a booking for the next Saturday but thought we'd give the dining experience a chance to redeem the bar experience. Oh dear, a 25 minute wait for our order to be taken, and only then when we managed to attract a passing waiter. Half our 'while you wait' order of olives and fresh breads arrived with our starter course and monkfish main that needed a steak knife. Enough Eastern European staff to make any Gdansk resident feel right at home. This is one local who will not be bothering again. Such a shame, it all looks good but cheap labour and average food drags it right down.

I went to this pub a while ago with all the old interior, and was very dissapointed. They state they are a 13th century pub, however they have not kept ANY oldish furniture, they simply ripped it out and put up a flat screen tv. The food isnt great, and very much overpriced. There are spelling mistakes all over the menu, and i found it very hard to find something i liked on the menu. There is no garden simply a patio, and no childrens menu. We decided to go to the ringlestone inn, very old building with all the old furniture, a childrens play area with slides swings play houses and a childres menu.
It is such a shame they didnt leave it the way it was.
