There's nothing here really for the real ale drinker, though they did have Hoegaarden on draught which I do like every now and then. Handy for a "first pint" due to its location next to the train station, but I do prefer the Knott to be honest. This place, and its clientele on my visit, seemed a bit pretentious, bottles of wine in ice buckets everywhere you looked.

Had a similar experience to the review below. Was in on a Sunday night after Utd had played Liverpool and came as close as I'd like to to getting beaten up by some of their fans who probably aren't so keen on the prawn sandwiches.

Just had an appalling half hour in the Atlas. The Knott seems to have had a plumbing disaster so after checking Liverpool Road, I ended up back at Atlas and had a pint of Hoegaaden and read of the paper, which was totally spoiled by a bunch of pissed up ManU fans who had gone into full 'leave 'i'm it in't worf it' mode over some imagined slight. Worse still, the barstaff did little to get rid of them and there were no security staff to be seen. They should have been thrown out but they were left to grapple with each other. On top of that the music is pointlessly loud and the beer is expensive. I won't be going in again.

A nice place to meet up as its directly below Deansgate station. A nice blend of style and comfort. Meet up in here and then proceed directly across the road to Ther Knott Bar for beer that tastes of something.

For real ale, go to the Knott bar instead

NO ONE has mentioned the amazing terrace at the back... it's a proper cool retreat with loads of cool plants and stuff! The music is WICKED and there are less Deansgate Locks tossers there, even though it's almost opposite the Locks. Great to chill or meet or as a pre-club bar... [bad points - beer choice on tap is expensive and crap; go to the Knott Bar for better beer and the food is OK but well pricey...]. Over all though a mint location for a warm afternoon or evening...

One of the best bars in Manchester, playing decent tunes, with a friendly crowd of people, a great pre club bar!

Nice to drink wine in the daytime. Music not the best at night though.

almost fiercely chilled out! bit on the pricey side but well worth it!

Also my favourite bar in town, just far enough away from the Locks to avoid the tacky folk who go in there, it has a really relaxed door policy and a great vibe about it. Great for a pre-club bar or just to sit in till 2am.

My favourite pub in Manchester. Set under deansgate train station you can hear the trains as they go over head. decent beer garden out back and full length windows round the front. a bit pricey, but the clientele are trendy 20/30 somethings and inevitably theres rarely any trouble. Music is absolutely fantastic at weekends.
