Went back here since its 4 years since the pub dog barked at me and I hoped he had forgotten me by then, well he wasn't there and its run by someone else now anyway, the whole place has changed from a pub with atmosphere to a bland re painted modern pub with plain walls and a rowdy group playing pool but the beer was good, can't say I'll rush back there though to be honest, another 4 years maybe if its still open then

This Shepherd Neame pub didn't have any of the draught beers on sale when I went in on a Saturday evening - the barman said 'there's no demand for it around here' but he did offer bottled Shepherd Neame beers. I didn't stay, so I can't say much else about this pub.

Just checking my facts: (1) there was a wake on (2) the pub was open.
Am I missing something?

I've only ever popped in here for a quick one when staying the weekend at the upmarket Coome Haven, it's always a bit worrying when a landlord feels the need to defend his pub in this way,on my brief visit I didn't get the urge to return as I felt it lacked atmosphere, I can confirm however that the Bull is a very welcoming and well run pub as my review from a couple of years back stated,

I wish to reply to the pathetic comment left by Umbongo on the 13th December 2009, as the tenants of The Comet Pub.
When you visited the pub, this was actually on a day when we had a wake and were not serving food and seeing as we have no 'fat haggered women' who are members of staff here, it must have been a member of the wake you asked to see if we were open, someone who had just lost a member of her family - shame on her for not being the life and soul of the party! What were you expecting when you walked through the door of a pub that was having a wake? A big old disco going on with butlers running around with trays of caviar? Of course you would because you're obviously so classy owning a caravan in the 'upmarket' Combe Haven.
All of the customers that come through our doors are happy with our food and our service, and to be completely honest, we definitely can do without stuck up snobs such as yourselves in coming in to our pub - so to put it bluntly - you and your 'Jaguar Xj8' can go go to The Bull and stay there, because you're obviously full of a load of it.

NO HEATING AND NO FOOD
|
We Own a holiday home very near to this pub and on the 12th of December 09 pulled up outside to try the place for a meal.
Outside was a large badly dressed woman smoking and for some reason thought she was attached to the property and asked if it was open and she replied yes.
Upon entering the door we knew we should have turned around and found anywhere but this horrible cold shell.
We ordered drinks and then asked for a menu only to be told that there was no food to be had, 9.00 in cold blood in December with no food for two people in a Jaguar Xj8 I dont think so. WE DO NOT NEED ALCOHOL THAT BADLY EVEN IF THE OWNER DOES. NO APOLOGIES WERE EVEN OFFERED BY THE FAT HAGGERD WOMAN IN BLACK FOR NOT INFORMING US OF THE COLD AND NO FOOD SITUATION.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE AVOID THIS STRUGGLING CRACK OF A HOLE IF YOU ARE AN OWNER OF A HAVEN CARAVAN.
Go to the Bull where you will be rewarded with a welcome and some warmth and decent food.
Everybody seems to know this Comet as a total mess and s**Th**e and we shall spread the word. bad cold dirty scank pub.
