Still waiting for its reincarnation in the Welsh Folk Museum.

Most of it had disappeared when I went by on Saturday!

R.I.P. The Vulcan Hotel :(
Very Sad News indeed, as this Pub has been a landmark in Cardiff for MANY Years, the like of which will probably be never seen again........
The Vulcan is now closed and boarded up. Apparently to be moved brick by brick to St Fagans folk museum. Cardiff gains a few precious real estate and loses some more of its soul. Very sad.

As featured in this week's 'Being Human' (BBCThree)

I have not called in since last year but always enjoy visiting this establishment. Great to chat to the locals and especially the stories of Billy Harries. A must visit if you are in Cardiff. Good pint of Brain's cask ale available
As good as it always was.
Plenty of character, friendly, good beer. What more do you need?

First visit for many a long year and I was glad to have a couple of pints to support this pub as it certainly is under threat again. I was told that it would only survive until 2012 and that the owner of the car park also owns the pub building and wants to (a) pull it down for more parking or (b) convert it into student accommodation. I cannot coroborate this, but judging by pervious attempts at closure it would not surprise me if this was the case. The pub is very sad inside, but you can understand why nobody wants to spend any money on it if it will finally close. The landlady was very friendly and there was a "folk-rock" band practicing in the bar when I was there. In fact I was told that they were recording some tracks for an album and as the pub doesn't open till 2pm and I was the only customer it seemed a good place to play their music! How many times have you been to a pub where there was a gut playing on his banjo in the Gents bog !!! Beer was Brains Bitter and although it was average I did have a couple of pints at 2.25 a pint. It would be a real shame if this place was closed and demolished for although it may not look much now I'm sure it could be great little boozer with some TLC in the future. It certainly stands out on its own where it is situated!

Rumoured to be under threat again.....
Had to pop in 4 a ale after seeing it's reprieve in the news, although it had more flies in it than customers it was worth the visit, god i hope it STAYS!! 8/10
Popped in recently for the first time ever just to give it some sort of support before it should close. Well, I really thought that it was quite average and this includes everything from ale, decor, service the lot....luckily the locals seem quite friendly. It is a shame it is closing due to the entire modernisation these councils think we 'need', but after my experience I probably wouldn't have gone back anyway.
Nope, still very much open last night, with no definite news of its future either way. There is still hope until they padlock the doors so give it a visit. One of the last real pubs in Cardiff and one of the best landladies in the land.
25th May 09 - seems pretty closed to me!

Public meeting Thurs 27th jan 09, in the Atrium, across the road from the Vulcan re-"Saving the Vulcan".

Wonderful throwback pub, great landlord, great beer - it must be saved
Meetings are being held with authorities to save the pub. Sign the petition in the bar, write to the Heritage Minister AlunFFred.Jones at wales.gov.uk

I was advised to call into this pub by those running the Cardiff beer festival and what an unspoilt gem it is. Why can these buildings not be preserved in some way. Once its gone - its gone. Shame.

Fantastic time-warp pub now dwarfed by tower blocks and very much under threat. Excellent Brain's beers, friendly staff and a good mix of clientele. Try it while you can.
A little Victorian gem, spit and (literally) sawdust and full of character. Tiled exterior and bare wood floor with many pictures and artefacts of the city's past adorning the walls.Well kept Brains beers a retro juke box and an excellent, friendly landlady. You've seen"life on mars", this is the pub on mars!!. Seemingly frozen in time, a rare and wonderful place. One of the few pubs in the city that haven't had the soul "renovated" out of them. Soon to be demolisheed in the name of:- err- progress. Enjoy it before it is too late.
