Nice looking pub with two ales on when I visited last night. Had the Will's Neck which was lovely. Dogs welcome.

We were visiting this area and were told to put this pub on our list and I can see why.....fantastic food...check out the homemade burger! 2 fantastic local ales, Spypost and Whiteball from the Masters Brewery of Wellington a town close to Halse, both beers in superb condition and I had to sample severalof each just to make sure.....well done New Inn we will be back!!

Pleasant village pub cum restaurant in a pleasant village.
Log fires in winter an d sunny garden in the summer make a pleasant setting to try the 2 real ales always available; yesterday (Sunday) they had Quantock Ale and Quantock Sundowner, both were pleasant .
Overall, pleasant .

Ate and drank with a group of friends at the weekend after a long absence. Good local (Quantock) brewery ale on tap as well as Thatchers dry cider. Enjoyed by all, but I would really like to see Exmoor or Cotleigh represented. Food was very good - my steak was succulent and well cooked to order. Three of my friends had the monkfish and all agreed that it was excellent too. Desserts hit the spot. The service was great and the atmosphere was relaxed and conducive to a lovely evening. I shall return with family. Please try this pub.

What a Gem!
After talking to the new manager of the New Inn last Saturday Night I am happy to say this pub is back on my list!
My wife and I have eaten at the establishment a few times now and every time we have been pleasently surprised! The food is fantastic and service top notch, the inn caters for people looking for a quick meal in the bar aswell as people looking for a romantic supper in their very intimate restaurant!
Leo, the Australian manager (who drove to drive us home so we could avoid paying the large taxi cost, let us leave our car overnight) tells us that anything they can source locally they do, and all desserts are made by one of their cooks.
All in all, try them out... and ignore the bad press below, this pubs coming back in a big way. Watch out other taunton pubs, theres a new contender in town!

used to have a right pi** head as a landlady, foul mouthed, but I think she liked me ;) now seems to have gone too far the other way, but thats modern day Halse im afraid ...(sigh) :(

What a suprise! Lovely beer and a harrased barmaid make for a lively combination. Didnt try the food but plenty of punters were doing so without complaint. Will certainly put this pub back on my list.

Reviews here are fairly accurate. promising pub run by keen amatuers seems about right. Had a couple of decent pints so there is hope. Will return.

If you like real ale, there is a good pint of Cotleigh 25 to be had.
However, the restaurant food is sadly lacking. Not bad, just too pricey for what it is.
The wine (both Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc) is awful.
This pub is going in the right direction, but must try harder.

Visited for lunch while waiting for the train to Minehead on the West Somerset Railway. Enthusiastic welcome for our two dogs by theirs and the staff. Great lunch but wife forgot her handbag which she didn't realise until we were all on the train. Staff went through her handbag and phoned my mobile to no avail, it was off. On return from Minehead went back to the pub where it was explained what they had tried to do to contact us - full marks for their efforts. Sounded as if the place was under new management and they were really trying to make a difference. Will definitely make another visit when we are in the area. Great beers - wife can drive me home afterwards!

Decent enough village pub with a big emphasis on food.
4 real ales however: Cotleigh 25, Otter Bitter, Dartmoor Bitter and Proper job. I went for the Cotleigh and it was very nice.

Been a while since we've eaten there, quite disappointing. It used to be really full of locals and the food was good. Sadly not anymore.

Could be a good pub as it's the only pub in quite an affluent village, and has a lot going for it, but it seems to be poorly run by amatuers with no talent whatsoever. A shame, but that's life.

Like the Fitzhead Inn down the road, this pub needs a good landlord to turn it around. Friday nights used to be packed with locals drinking, eating and playing cards. Not so anymore. Had a brief run of success 2/3 years ago but it's gone very downhill since. Next time I'm down there I hope I am pleasantly surprised.

An ordinary country pub.
|
Used to brew their own ales but not anymore. It's all a bit pretentious I'm afraid. Beer is ok, so is the food but neither are anything special. Service is poor, in all there is plenty of room for improvement.
|
Yes it is. Well outside Taunton though.
|
Is this the pub that brews its own ales?
|
used to be home for the Somerset Electric Brewery (now gone I believe). comfortable country inn, decent ales and sunday lunch food (good sized portions).
