Lovely historical hotel/pub in town centre. Good range of food (not tried) and ales. Been there for 100s of years.

Who would have thought it. The hotel I am stopping in, also has the best pub/bar in Pangbourne.
What an odd place (town, not the elephant). Beautiful location but very odd, almost non existent night life.
The elephant bar appeared to be being used by a lot of non-residents. The beers were from West Berkshire Brewery and in top condition. I stuck with the Good Old Boy I'd tried earlier in the evening at the Swan.
A lovely hotel as well. Recommended.

It's an hotel bar but it's better than most pubs. The beer is excellent (West Berkshire) and so is the food, the staff are cheerful and helpful (and competent) and there's a good pub garden.

The beer was good and served well. The Sunday roast was very poor with tough meat and next to no vegetables. I have eaten better for less than half the price.

Charming village bar serving excellent local beer and good food. There's something unsatisfactory about looking through a doorway and seeing the lush foyer of an hotel, but it's the best bar in Pangbourne (it's where the people who own horses go), and closer to the car park than the Cross Keys (where the grooms go).

Although the interior decor is more hotel than pub I have always found the beer quality reliably good with West Berkshire brews and Butcombe on offer. The food, which I've only sampled once recently was ok too. It doesn't seem to get too busy and attracts all sorts.

Recently refurbed, sports a couple of interesting ales from West Berks plus a Butcombe. Condition average.
Unfortunately the inside of the place doesn't appeal as a place to drink them in, a bit sterile. And what are those tables about? There's no accounting for (bad) taste...
Give it a bit of time, and hopefully will it'll gain a bit of character and ale consistency. Maybe worth a quick half at present.

Unusual Restaurant come pub, Elephants are the order of the day, I remember reading those stories when I was a kid. A great place to come if you have lots of money as the somewhat pretentious menu is a bit pricey, especially as we just wanted lunch time bar food. However the real ale was reasonably priced and had two local West Berkshire Beers in fine form, so from that point of view I'd heartily recommend it.

The most 'upmarket' of the pubs, you walk through the door and are greeted (not verbally I mean) by the reception, for this is a hotel - bar is on the right. Very pleasantly surprised by the 3 ales on offer (although previous comments gave me an indication) - 2 from West Berks brewery & Butcombe brewery (near Bristol). We asked for the menu but in these recession bitten times gave it a miss - rather pricey. A pleasant venue - go for the beer, at there's no Greene King there.

Walking through to the bar (called "BaBar" - geddit!) we had fully expected to have a choice of only lager & bottled beers (perhaps Tusker?), so it was a pleasant surprise to see three hanpumps - two west Berks ales + a guest on offer. My partner, Dipsophocles, and I left fully refreshed and happy.
If I had to find fault with the bar, it would be the tables. Maybe they're supposed to be trendy, but to me they look like a job lot from a factory canteen.
