Fairly unremarkable pub with an emphasis on food (though no one was eating). Reasonable ale selection but not the greatest of pints.

Foody pub, with one real ale available on my visit.

Hard to recall anything significant about this pub apart from two distinguishing features from my visit. The first was for a smallish meal concocted from left over turkey with a handful of potato wedges for which I was charged 6.00; and secondly that there was a huge replica of a champagne glass in which a shapely young blonde lady cavorted about dressed in black stockings and bodice, languidly waving around some fanned feathers. Just for a second I thought I might have stepped into one of those venues I swear to everyone I know I would never venture in, but it eventually it dawned on me this was a one off event arranged as a birthday treat. But for the ales on offer, and the ambience of the pub itself I have to say this distraction dwarfed just about any other impression so I'm unable to award an accurate rating score.

I have been reading the comments about the Court Inn. My family and I use the pub regularly. To me, some of the comments are not recognisable. In my experience, they serve consistently good quality, varied food and there is a very pleasant and friendly service in a clean and inviting environment. The background music is up to date whilst not being intrusive. The great thing about the pub is that it is family run with many quirky and interesting aspects. Keep it up Court Inn - we love our visits!

The Food has gone significantly down hill here. Anything basic like a sandwich and you're fine but why have steaks on a menu if you cant get anyone to cook them? The staff are generally friendly bar one or two who have no communication skills. It also seems a little worrying to see the "cook" sat at the table next to you eating her tea at 6pm on a Sunday. Who is cooking our meal I have just paid 40 for? She was very pleasant though and told us to wait for the happy hour. Nice lady, if what was happening wasnt so strange. I pray the kitchen is nothing like the toilets in The Court Inn. I doubt that is possible though as they would be in serious trouble if that were so. There are nicer places to eat in Durham these days if you look around. Places that have "Chefs" rather than just "Cooks".

Expensive beer and limited ale selection, though it is usually good quality. Food varies highly in quality and price, but when good is excellent. Solid if unspectacular pub.

Excellent beer - always had great service too
The seats out the front are an amazing sun trap if you get lucky with the weather - i have been frazzled sat out here nearly every year! For these seats alone I'd recommend this pub as an out of the way drink for those hot sunny days when you just want to take a load off and have a cracking booze
The food has gotten noticably worse over the last few years - actually, i'll get off the fence here and suggest that they get rid of the tallentless joke that runs the kitchen. They can't cook at the same standard that the front of house staff present and really let this (otherwise) fantastic business down. Let's just say that this person loves their deep fat fryer but hates cleaning it. Don't let the quantity of diners fool you - this is the North East remember.

Fairly central location, but nonetheless tucked away from the crowds. A couple of tables out the front and a small courtyard. There seems to be a large restaurant area although we didn't try the food. A couple of beers on tap along with Olde English Cyder.

Nicely appointed pub right next door to the Crown Court as you might expect. Two handpumps one with Black Sheep and the other usually serving a changing beer from Wylam. It's always a good pint in here if a little pricey, but that's how Harry the landlord likes it as it keeps out "certain elements" that aren't welcome. It has two letting rooms upstairs with a kichen where you make your own breakfast. I stay here whenever I'm in Durham.

More of a family pub aimed at the SAGA not the SEGA generation. As such, a less intrusive atmosphere into your evening. With this opportunity arising, you might like to try actually having a converation with the person or persons you have gone to the pub with!
Ate here - sadly all items on the mixed grill were apparently cooked together, so it all tasted of liver and kidney. Shame, but what you get, if you don't employ a chef who cares.
Good beer, but limited real ale selection. Your gran would like it for some pub grub.

Food good value, beer currently weighing in at 2.80 a pint for real ale (the beer varies, the price doesn't). Nice pub, but the prices paid by lager drinkers are eye-watering.

Legendary for massive food portions, now has real ale too. TV with Setanta Sports.
