Very poor Sunday roast. The food was cold; the potatoes like rock; the Yorkshire pudding was uncooked; no gravy. However, the worst aspect was the disregard we were held in by the management. No-one apologised or even came to speak to us. A waitress was told to offer us a complimentary cup of coffee. The management clearly see themselves as above the diners. This is Christchurch- full of friendly pubs and restaurants-all of whom seem to be able to cook a roast dinner. If there is something wrong in most venues the management will confer with the guests- not at The Old Vicarage.

I am very wary of people who register to come on BITE, then give a place glowing reviews & are never heard of again. That goes for James242, Davedean123 & ec123. I am with atticus, be wary until you get a few unbiased reviews.

Visited the old vicarage the other week and couldn't have been more impressed. A warm welcome from the new owners and great service from the waitress. Steak was perfectly cooked which is hard to find and great beer too! I will defiantly be going back soon.

Please note that the Old Vicarage is currently closed, pending a change of management. A number of the views below are too harsh and personal, relating to the former management, who in fact worked long and hard to refurbish the premises. The present recession has claimed many, many busineses. I am not alone in wishing the former management all the very best for the future.

We too have been let down by Bill Donahue - we had a wedding booked for July this year but cannot get any answer from anyone at the Old Vicarage. They are a total waste of space.

We booked over a year ago to hold our wedding reception at this pub in the summer, this year. We have had nothing but trouble from them and recently found out the owner has run it into the ground and is forced to sell. We have now been left with 4 months to go to our wedding and no reception venue!
The owner Bill Donoghue is a waste of space and clearly has no idea how to run such a business. We find this utterly amazing seen as they had 5 other weddings booked in this year, and have all been let down at short notice. We are all in the process of seeking legal advice on how to get our money back!
Absolutely discraceful behaviour!!
Do not attend this pub until the new owners have taken over!!

Interesting comment from spillmypint - youre not the owner or related are you? Any establishment should welcome everybody, unfortunately for you seem to want to dictate, the place will never make money with the likes of you frequenting it. I also see that from the comment after yours that the poor lady never even got a reply. I gather now that the place isn't open during the day anymore - like I said give it to someone who can run it, the last lady is proof of that! looks like spillmypint maybe the only drinker in the place, you are welcome to it

I booked a very important 90th birthday celibration for my father in this place at least a month in advance, I confirmed the booking four days in advance. We all turned up only to be told that the cook had not been informed of the booking an hence no meal for anybody ,the manager was not avaliable to speak to me (I wonder why !!!). I sent a letter asking the manager why we had been treated in this manner - which was totaly ignored. I would like to offer my advice on the quality of the meal but as we did not get any , I cannot.
So my advice , if you wish to be treated as we were please feel free to book, but if you dont please go somwhere else.
I may have been a little harsh on the manager for not replying to my letter, however I did assume that he could write this may not be the case!!!!!

a harsh review by champagnestyle, and I think this pub is better for the fact that people like them don't frequent it.

Whoever owns this - give it to someone who can run it, place is a mess

A pub with a 'vicar of dibley' feel about it. Barbours and wellies not required dress code but it may help you blend in better. Bar staff (owners?) couldnt be more friendly and it is a lovely place to drink. Huge garden for such a small bar. Lots of character, dog friendly, stranger friendly...
|
Very compact bar area serving three Ringwood variants.
Large, sprawling gardens severely blighted by road noise and further hampered by the presence of a large marquee and two brightly coloured portaloos. The marquee has been there for quite some time but hopefully the portaloos are temporary but maybe not given the marquees ongoing presence.
Always looked quite promising driving past but the reality is a bit disappointing. Not the best pints of Ringwood I've ever had but certainly not the worst.
|
thought this place had potential, however, very disappointed with it now.

Now open to non residents, Ringwood Best and 49ER on hand pump. New management and a complete makeover, incuding the removal of the tent in the garden! Very near Hinton admiral station.
