4 real ales on, in good nick and from interesting breweries. A nice place to have a drink with plenty of tables to sit down and have a chinwag.

Definitely above average. Well-kept beer, friendly licensees. I sat on the patio watching half a dozen red kites circling overhead. As others have said, like a country pub but in the middle of a large residential area, and somewhat hard to find - not somewhere you'd stumble over by accident, but worth the effort.

Very impressed. A large pub with a neat and tidy garden, bit hard to find but well worth it. 4 beers available - GK St Edmunds, something from Shugborough (Titanic), Sambrooks and a n other (I forget!). Usually 3.10 a pint but a 10p CAMRA discount makes it better!
Friendly and helpful staff. 2pm opening Monday - Thursday. I guess that it would attract the kids at weekends but they are supposed to be out by 2000.
I'll certainly return.

The bus from town (33) drops you at the bottoom of the drive up to the Royal Oak which still has the feel of a country pub even though it has long been surrounded by housing. I was the only customer but to be fair the pub had just opened (2pm during the week). However, the Black Sheep Bitter was fine and Pedigree was also available and the landlord showed me the list of cask ales he can get so the range may vary from visit to visit. (3 a pint was reasonable as well) The pub has two bars on two levels and a smoking area and garden and is actually in a very pleasant setting. Worth the trouble to get to.

I popped in one afternoon, while someone was being shown my flat, with a book to read. The only other punter was someone else reading a book with a pint as well so the place was quite bare and devoid of people.
People who seemed to be the staff were quite noisy and quarrelsome but they kept to themselves mainly and I got my reading, and my drinking done.

A bit of weird one - this is located away from Tilehurst town and is in the leafier suburbs, up a little hill. I was certainly expecting something good when I got off the bus but was pretty disappointed when I got there on my visit just before Christmas.
It was unkempt outside and felt like a very low-grade local inside, split over two levels but with none of the attendant intrigue one might expect. The ambience and general feel of the place wasn't at all welcoming.
Two ales on offer, both Courage, condition poor.
Could be a brilliant community pub in the right hands, I am surprised that no-one has made the effort.
