Paid another visit this week, still has the two banks of 5 pumps. Guest ales were all bitter or pale. I had Osprey by Cotleigh (5%) which was quite pleasant. Labelled up as £2.29 a pint but I wasn't told how much it was when I ordered a half, the woman behind the bar just held her hand out for my money which I found a little rude. Yes, I can do the maths - but it is basic manners really isn't it? She also left the glass between two pumps for me to awkwardly reach in and collect. So great service there!
Noticed it has a decent size beer garden, unfortunately only noticed that on my exit.

Made a late weekday lunchtime visit last week. This is a large pub with a long bar down the right hand side of the building. Two banks of five pumps, consisting of one perry and six real ales (three of the pumps were off). Wetherspoon usuals Ruddles and Abbot Ale featured, along with Doom Bar, Farmers Belgian Blue (Bradfield Brewery) and a couple of others I did not note.
I had a pint of the Belgian Blue at £2.20 (bargain). I was surprised to find it was purple in colour when being poured and did wonder what I had committed myself to - however the taste was great and very refreshing. A nice enjoyable and unusual pint, even if it was served in a John Smiths glass!
The seating arrangement feels a bit odd, but not quite as "canteen style" as some Spoons I have ventured into.
Definitely worth a visit if in the area and you like a real ale.

Very good Spoons. Love how you can just step off the tram right into the door!

A quality boozer. I had a fine plate of nachos in here. Very large toilets.

have visited a few times since. there still seems to be just as many beers on, but the beers now seem to be ok on the whole. back up to a 7 from me.
|
once more, another visit and some of the ales our group had were off form. I have mentioned this to JDW on theire website feedback. rating down to a 5 from me.

I like this place, and its very convenient for me. however I've noticed recently that one or two of the cask ales are going off before they're sold. I think as things are they're notshifting as much cask ale, and could do with reducing the range. They consistently have about 10 ales on together.

visited during recent beer festival , beer was superb and service was excellent, nice unusual building aswell, 8/10

Large Wetherspoons pub in a former swimming pool building. Have a large selection of guest ales. Staff efficient (got served straight away on each visit to the bar) and food quality good. Right next to Hillsborough tram stop.
|
This is a Wetherspoons, but don't let that put you off. Service is good, staff are knowledgeable and the ales are well kept and change frequently. But don't tell Wetherspoon's head office, because they have clearly made a mistake when they set up this pub.
I was in one night night and asked for a stout. The person serving asked if I liked dark beers - I do - so she gave me a sample of another one they had which was just on. Made my choice of next beer pretty simple.
Unfortunately my time in Sheffield is coming to an end. A pity I only discovered this pub a few weeks ago.

This pub has only been open 14 months and has already gained entry into 2009 CAMRA Good Beer Guide. say no more!

This pub is located on the Hillsborough tram stop. Was there recently (beer fest on)& v nice place. Staff efficient.

the rawson spring is originally a converted swimming pool building. It has been a pub called "the deep end" in the past, which closed. it consists of a large rectangular seating area and bar occupying the old pool area, with extra rooms toward the front, and an outside area.
it is now a popular in-town lunchtime stop-off with good selection of around 8-10 cask ales, keg beers & lagers, & bottled continentals, etc. basically the usual wetherspoon selection of drinks & meal deals. this is a day-time pub for me though. can't vouch for weekends & evenings.
plenty of picture-framed local historical information on display. some shun wetherspoon pubs, but I always admire their ethos of restoring and utilizing some of the countries otherwise derelict properties, along with excellent value pricing.

This is a pretty new Wetherspoons and is lovely inside. There are a couple of rooms off the main area, and a lovely outside seating area too. The beer range is excellent for a Wetherspoon pub, possibly because of its location in a prime real ale trail hotspot. Well worth a visit each time I go to Sheffield.
