Horrid sausage factory, completely out of character with the lovely surroundings.

This pub has really turned itself around. I went there the other day, staff very friendly and efficient, had some good beers on the pub, I had the Doombar and that was brilliant. My wife and I had a bite to eat, nothing amazing about the food, but certainly a cut above the usual Weatherspoons style serving and was well priced. Overall, very impressed, well done, this pub is a little gold mine and hopefully they can keep it going now.

The only good thing about this pub is the decor and the outside surroundings. Most of the staff are rude and have chips on their shoulders espicially the manager. It is meant to be a child friendly pub but the whole time of being there all the staff do is huff and puff and make it known you are not welcome with children. There is no warmth to the pub which is a shame as its in a beautiful area.

Had a great visit to the Danson Stables today, never knew this pub was there, hidden in the middle of the park, great beers, sampled youngs, doom bar and london pride, all bright and lovely. Had a snack as well, staff were friendly and welcoming, beer and the food were all great, and the courtyard must be spectacular in the sun, can't wait to go back.

Shocking service, confusion reigned! Not just my account, friends who have also visited reporting the same basic problems. Stick to a quick pint, quick if the staff / management can keep up with such a simple request! Otherwise you'll regret it. Shame really, because this should be all acounts be a sure fire winner, placed on the edge of the picturesque danson park, an inviting, handsome looking pub, terribly let down by total ineptness.

we went to Danson Stables today and the service was appalling.
We were told there would eb an hour wait for food, which we accepted as it was a bank holiday even though we were puzzled as there were so many empty tables.
As i had my 2 year old daughter with me we ordered some bread an oil thinking this would come almost straight away and would see us all through the hour and stop her from getting bored. After ordering we were told that the bread could not come any earlier than the food and we would also have to wait an hour for this!!
After an hour and ten minutes we were starting to think about asking how much longer when i noticed that the people that had ordered after us had their food and were already pretty much half way through it! I went and asked where our food was to be told it was just coming.
2 minutes later mine and my daughters food was brought out, the vegeatble on my lamb shank were barely cooked, let alone the summer roasted vegetables that were decribed on the menu! And the gravy on my daughters meal was baked into the mash potato and theplate was boiling hot where it had been left under the heat lamps for so long.
We were told that they were waiting for the chicken on my sisters ceasar salad and that would be a couple of minutes. 5 minutes later the slad arrived and we were told to enjoy our meal... even though there was a meal missing!! when we asked for it they brought it out in about 2 minutes, the chips were soggy and the chicken was very dry, again where it had been left under the heat lamps.
Totally unimpressed with the food and the service as we didnt even have our glasses cleared from our table for the whole meal.
Will not be going back.

There can be few pubs as disappointing as Danson Stables. By rights, its setting in acres of parkland, in a beautiful building (even if it is just an old stable block) ought to make it a real gem. Unfortunately, it is anything but. I have been here twice now, on the second occasion just to see if it could be any more awful than the first. It was. Where to begin? There's a rubbish selection of real ale, even if the ones the keep are kept ok. But it is horribly let down by the food, which you can order off a menu that looks like it was time-warped out of 1982. Fancy a sharing platter of pigs in blankets and microwaved Camembert? I didn't but it looked like one of the less wretched options so I ordered it. What a mistake. Measly portions for almost 10, with just two slices of bread (although they were gracious enough to provide more for free), the dish was loaded with incredibly over-salted low grade meat products I wouldn't ordinarily give to my own dog. I wasn't expecting the best, but come on guys, this is an utter rip off. I should have known when, on ordering my food at the bar, the two staff had a conversation in front of me (but not including me) about the relative merits of the dish. It ended with the second member of staff proclaiming that she had never tried it because she didn't like the look of it. Great service guys.

As for the cleanliness (or lack thereof), I won't bore you any more than I have, but suffice it to say that everything feels sticky from tables, to floors to bar tops and there's a rather odd smell in the place.

In short, it needs a major kick up the backside. It could be a really good family pub. It isn't.

Four of us went in here yesterday for Sunday lunch and a drink. The roast was average but the desserts were great. Service was quick and cheerful. There was a nice "feel" about the place . Had two pints of excellent Caledonian Schiehallion. Theh only other beer that was on at the time was London Pride. Will definately visit again.

Such good potential, pub needs a kick up the butt, could be a beautiful warm cosy pub, everytime ive been there for a drink in the summer eves its empty, staff are just leaning on the bar, nice surroundings in the summer which is when i go, staff need to be friendly and welcoming as they are what customers see first.
littleangel9802 - 16 Nov 2009 22:08
I have never had service like this, there was nobody at the bar except me and it took them ages to serve, by which time about 7 people were waiting! No good beer at all either. It is a shame as it is a nice place situated on nice grounds.
Longshaft81 - 26 Sep 2009 09:42
it's a shame these places wait untill there custom deserts them untill they try to improve the service,

7 of us went here last night for a Christmas Meal at very short notice. It was empty apart from one other table of guests. I must admit I was dreading it due to reading these reviews of the place, but in fairness the meal was very good and plentiful, the waitress and manager were both VERY attentive and it was clean and the food piping hot. The only thing was my friend and I asked for well cooked steaks as we are both pregnant and unfortunately they were like Charcoal, but that was the only issue. I think that they are trying to get people back on side and to be honest none of us had any complaints about the place, just shame that no one is gving it a chance...maybe 2009 this place will turn itself around? Would nice nice as its in such a lovely location....The venue woujld suit becoming a Carvery.
SOOZYL - 21 Dec 2008 15:57
stopped going in here about two years ago as it was getting steadily worse every time we went in,and judging by the latest reviews that trend seems to have continued, shame because it was ok

TERRIBLE...
Went to this pub for lunch with the family. Queued up for twenty minutes only to be served by some sweaty guy that was slower than a snail.
Ran out of three choices of menu, brought out dirty cutlery, brought main out with starters, then the waitress told us that one of our main course choices has actually run out (when our starters were at the table) forgot to come and refund us the difference in cost of meal, apfter finishing starters waited an hour and no sign of mains, queued up again and informed staff. Manager came out and told us they had forgotten to cook our mains, when it did come out it was cold and tasteless and salad was brown and obviously not fresh.
The tables were filthy, rubbish all over the floor and customers were leaving in crowds, all with something to complain about and leaving their food.
Only good thing was that the manager offered us full refund and encouraged us to return for a meal for four with a bottle of wine for free next time.
My boyfriend refuses to go back though!!!
The manager blamed the disaster on the warm weather and them being especially busy.
I blame it on young, inexperienced staff, disorganisation, not ordering in enough stock. Taking orders when they obviously could not cope and no staff training.
Shame as the pub surroundings are very beautiful, with a lot of work it could work well
kpbaron150381 - 20 Sep 2008 16:01
once is enough
never again bad service bad pub full stop
bexleypete - 7 Sep 2008 15:11
Only poked my head in here once a short while back but can't say I was impressed by what I saw, dirty sticky tables, very little choice of beer, kids running all over the place, no it's not somewhere I'd go to which is a shame as it looks welcoming from outside in the park.

Poor service and high prices make this one to avoid. I waited 40 minutes for my food on a Saturday afternoon at 2PM. when it came it was pretty average. Doesn't really make it as a pub or a restaurant but the setting is OK.
wrichard - 28 Jun 2008 18:42
Once visited, and only once. Very wooden, best thing about this place is that the chavs find it hard to get to, so they avoid it. Food ok and decent beer at top prices.
middenmaker - 4 Dec 2007 19:51
I was in this pub last night (24th March) for a meal.
Good selection of beers (Youngs & Spitfire top bitters, Amstell & Calsberg top lagers - for me anyway).
Considering it was a Saturday night, it wasn't too busy (most places are quiet at the moment due to Gordon Browns effect on disposable income), which was good news, service wise.
The food arrived promptly enough, and was good honest pub food.
The nicest things about this place are its history & atmosphere and its location - A ex-stable block to a Georgian palladian mansion (across the road) and set slap bang in the middle of a park.
Only gripe would be not too much of an option for places to sit if you're not eating - although in the summer there's plenty of tables out front and on the side patio. 8/10

agree with the last comment more a restraurant, but you can get a decent pint of london pride, also speckled hen smooth which was different but nice, food was o.k. and service promt and friendly
vinnnie - 16 Jan 2007 12:52
This seems more of a restaurant than a pub. I would say that from what I could tell, theres no bar as such for the standing drinkers amongst us, just loadsa tables. I've eaten there and always found it good value and tasty enough. But the best bit for me is its location in Danson Park. A restaurant pub with never a hint of grief.
flatcapman - 10 Dec 2006 14:17
I dropped in for a couple of pints on a mid-week evening on a lovely summer's night.
Boy, has the place changed, for the better.
The service, from what I could see, was much better, and everyone seemed to happy. Smiles on the faces of the team is always a good sign.
But best of all they've sorted the beer out - they've got Amstel in now - huge improvement. The other beers had changed too, from what I rember for the better.
I can't speak for the food, as I didn't try it this time. What I do remember is they have some wierd ordering service at the bar, not the table, and you're left with a wooden spoon, feeling like a pr@tt, while you wait at least an hour for your food.
The system is a bit wierd, and doesn't seem to work at all as soon as it gets busy at the weekends.
anonymous - 15 Sep 2006 17:40
I don't think this pubs as bad as some are making out. I popped in a couple of times last summer and it didn't seem too bad. The food I ordered was fine and the atmosphere seemed friendly enough.
HTM69 - 1 Jun 2006 00:34
have to say that i went there a few years back and the food arrived very very quickly...

.....probably as they microwaved it!!!

From what i recall, the veggies menu is non existent

I have to agree about all the negative comments about Danson Stables, all I ordered was a tea and coffee when it finaly arrived the teapot had no lid the coffee was warm and the milk was in a expresso cup.I have eaten there in the past and vowed never to go back It has not improved.
burf09 - 12 Mar 2006 18:02
I would have to agree with all the negative comments about this place. Its absolutely rubbish, and the best advice I can give is to stay away. The worst thing is that it used to be really good a few years ago.
GC22 - 7 Nov 2005 21:45
I should have taken note of the bad reviews and poor rating but we thought we'd give it a go.
The service was appalling, they had NO ICE in the building!
We arrived at 4.30 and didn't leave till 7.00 because we'd waited that long to be served our cold meals sporadically by a variety of incoherent staff on dirty plates. We had to clear away our own plates and I finished the meal with a luke warm coffee.
I have eaten at many Brewers Fayre and Harvesters and although the food is mediocre the service is always good.
It's a shame because it's in a beautiful setting and the inside decor is pleasant.

u can slag off the stables but it has come a long way and is improving i use to work there and loved it but too many changes made it uncomfortable good luck!
faye - 14 Oct 2004 14:00
absolutely disgusting, i would not recommend anyone to go there unless you like have awful service, rude staff and horrible microwaved food!
Vicky Southwell - 13 Jul 2004 11:47
Why did they spil this place when it had so much going for it? The character of the place gives it so much potential for a great atmos, but sh!te (really sh!te)beer and a ridiculous food ordering system leaving people waiting for over an hour for food wreck this place. The chain running this place really could run a p!ss-up in a er um Oh dear!
